Theft and illegal dumping on the rise at Salvos Osbourne Park

store

The Salvation Armys Osbourne Park store has unfortunately been subject to a rise in illegal
dumping as well as theft from their charity clothing bins and stores recently.
As a charity the Salvation Army spends more than 6 million a year to dispose of items not suitable
for sale and dumped rubbish, and this figure is increasing.
The store manage of Osbourne park, Simon Mckenzie, realises that often these items are being
donated with good intentions, but he wants the public to understand dumping unwanted items is
not the way to go about donations.
Staff have increasingly been returning to work after the weekend to find piles of clothing and
furniture dumped by the store entrance said Mckenzie.
The store manager also said that it is important for the public to understand the store is open
many hours a week to make donations of appropriate items.
its not only the cost of removing unsuitable items that are dumped, its the cost of these items
being stolen because they are left out.
Stealing of these donated items is an offence and Mckenzie hopes that with less dumping, there
will be a subsequent reduction in this theft.
it is not only our time and money being wasted, but we have to enlist the help of police and local
councils to help with the issue, so it is causing them problems as well.
Both Mckenzie and the Salvation Army as a whole is encouraging the public to be aware of store
opening hours and donate items within these times so they are not dumped outside the store and
bins and left to be stolen.
Store donation opening hours are between Monday and Friday from 9am to 530 pm and home
collections of large items can be arrange by calling 13 72 58.
