referred to as smartphones.
And because of their fiture, we believe that cellphone should be allowed at school
because it will have some benefit such us :
Emergencies
Having a cell phone on hand enables a student to quickly summon assistance in the middle of an
emergency. Incidences of violent attacks at a school, fires, kidnappings, medical emergencies and
other emergencies can be reported quickly so that the appropriate authorities dispatched. Without
the cell phones available on the scene, valuable time can be lost finding a nearby phone, dialing
out of the school's phone network, and finally contacting the authorities.
Parental Contact
Allowing students to carry cell phones gives parents the ability to contact their children
whenever necessary. This can include during family emergencies or when a student may need to
arrange a different method of getting home. Likewise, students can contact their parents to
arrange a ride home when ill, or they can request a forgotten book or project be brought to the
school.
Difficult Enforcement
Enforcing a cell phone ban can be be difficult and decidedly time-consuming. Most students are
likely to carry the phone anyway in case of an emergency, and taking time to note every offense
against the ban wastes the time that an educator could be using to teach students. Confiscating
phones can lead to confrontations with parents, adding further administrative gridlock that can
otherwise be avoided. As a result, acceptance can be a less time-consuming option than a ban.

Student Distraction
Cell phones, and especially smartphones, can present considerable distraction to their owners and
nearby classmates. Distractions come in the form of text messages, phone calls, unrestricted

phones can also distract both when students are in class and during free periods that ordinarily
could be dedicated to studying.
Class Disruption
A cell phone going off can be extremely disruptive in the middle of class, interrupting a lecture
or breaking student concentration during a test. Cell phones don't always simply make noise to
inform of an incoming call; incoming text messages, low battery alerts and alerts from
applications can all make disruptive noise or produce disruptive light.
Theft
Allowing cell phones in schools invites the risk of theft. Many cell phones, and especially
smartphones, can be particularly appealing targets to criminals who can remove or extract user
data and then resell the phones. Keeping students' phones out of the school eliminates the risk of
theft, and prevents the need for costly replacement of the phones.
Cheating
With most smartphones featuring a fully featured Web browser, the potential for cheating has
grown exponentially. Clever students can subtly look up the answers to test questions using
search engines such as Google or online encyclopedias such as Wikipedia. While careful
monitoring often eliminates this issue, the potential for mischief is still considerable.

such us
1. Parental contact. The amount of time it takes to reach a parent during an emergency can be
significantly reduced if the child has a cell phone. Finding Mom or Dad listed on their contact
list and making the call from the site of the emergency would be much quicker than having to
notify the teacher or office and having them look the information up in their system.
2. School closures. If there is a weather related emergency, and the school needs to close ,it
would be a lot less hassle for the school, if the students could contact their parents themselves. It
would be much faster than standing in line at a school phone or the secretary having to make
calls or activate a calling tree.
3. Scheduling. Most phones now have calendar options on them. This is an easy way for students
to keep track of their assignments and upcoming tests. Since teenagers are never very far from
their phones it would be easier for them to manage their work electronically, than trying to keep
track on a piece of paper that could get lost or damaged.
4. Research. Keeping students from surfing the web during class time could easily be managed by
having a policy that they are turned off. This being said the internet on cell phones can be a
useful tool for research on different projects.
5. Reduced workload for secretarial staff. Parents can send messages in regards to being late or
reminder for appointments via text message or voicemail to their children and thus eliminate or
reduce the amount of messages being passed to students by the office.
6. Emergencies. If there is an emergency at school that would require calling the police, fire or
ambulance services the response time is much shorter for an observing student to use their cell
phone rather than finding one at the school.
7. Note taking. If a student is slow in taking notes from the board or projector they can use their in
camera phone feature to take a picture of the notes, they didnt catch, so as not to miss anything.
8. Keeping tabs. Every parents worst nightmare is not knowing where your child is. Many cell
phone providers now offer a tracking option that will allow you to locate where your child is (or the
nearest cell phone tower). This way if the school calls and says your child is absent, and you
cannot reach them, you are able to track them down to make sure they are safe.
9. Forget something? Whether it is their lunch, soccer gear or homework assignment, we all know
that kids will be kids and that forgetfulness is a part of human nature. Allowing kids to have a cell
phone at school will make contacting parents much easier with a quick call or text during a break
rather than having to get permission to go to the office to make a call that could take much longer
if there is already a line waiting.
10. Peace of mind. Knowing that you are able to reach your child at a moments notice will give any
parent the peace of mind they need in order to send them out of the nest. After 9/11 we all tend to

be more cautious and protective with our families and this is just another way to have that

1. Distraction for the group: A ringing phone, or beeping text, or buzzing reminder are
all distracting sounds that disrupt the classroom. School is a childs work and if cell
phones are going off, how much work is anyone getting done? Its bound to happenpeople forget to silence their phones, and then everyone is distracted.
2. Distraction for the individual: So, lets say, for instance, that the cell phone is silenced
or set to vibrate only. The rest of the class may not be bothered by the phone, but the
person holding the phone certainly will be. Every time a message comes in or a phone
vibrates, the first reaction is to stop what one is doing, including listening to a teacher
present a lesson, and answer the call, or check the text. Learning can only be hampered
by allowing this type of distraction.
3. Reduction in Learning: Even if cell phone use could be limited in a school, say during
lunch and study hall time, there is still an environment of expectation that someone will
call or text. Students are focusing on their phones and messages during times when prior
to cell phones, students would talk about their lessons or homework for the day.
4. Disrespectful: Even if it is lunchtime or between classes, its rude to spend time texting
or talking on a cell phone. Students need to develop face to face relationships, and if they
spend a majority of their time at school communicating on their cell phones, they are not
learning how to build a relationship in person.
5. Cheating: Cell phones offer a completely new way for students to cheat on tests and
assignments. Students can text answers to each other while sitting in the same classroom.
A student in a morning class can take a picture of the test questions with their
phone/camera and text it to a friend who has the class in the afternoon allowing for more
opportunities to cheat. A better policy is to just not allow cell phones in schools.
6. Theft: Cell phones are attractive, full of cool technology and expensive. Everyone wants
the latest model. Schools that allow students to have cell phones in school have seen a
tremendous increase in theft complaints. Best to leave them at home or in a locked car to
prevent these thefts.

7. Loss: The multitasking student has a lot to keep track of and having a cell phone in
school is just one more thing. It can get expensive to replace that lost, misplaced, or
forgotten cell phone.
8. Breakage: Schools are not the safest places for cell phones. Students bump into each
other, they slam books and bags into lockers. Things fall on the floor. This is an
environment where a cell phone can be damaged. With the expense involved in
purchasing a cell phone, it is best to leave it out of the school.
9. Invasion of privacy: Many models of cell phones come with cameras. Sometimes
unscrupulous students will take pictures of other students, in the locker room, for
instance, and use those pictures to instigate harassment or bullying.
10. Fueling the rumor mill: in the old game telephone, a message was whispered into the
ear of a child who then passes that message on by whispering into the ear of the next
child, and so on, until all students have heard the message. When the last person hears the
message, he or she stands up and repeats the message to the rest of the class, finding
much to his dismay that his final story bears little resemblance to the message as it began.
Todays telephone game is similar and texting messages can spread through students
much faster, oftentimes setting off unnecessary and unfounded rumors and fears.
