3.0 This tool can handle x-dir moments only. Bi-axial moment capability is not there at present.
Also the column section profile has to be I or H profile

4.0 Colour code used in the workbooks :

a. Black cells : input cells ( user may input values)
b. Blue cells : output cells ( excel calculated values)
c. Green cells : user may write comments

Input
Output
Comment (except green cells of sheet " REACTIONS")

5.0 Each workbook is divided in many sub sheets for ease. Following is the description of various sheets :
( do not try to rename the sheets as the macro will not recognize the new name)

5a. REACTIONS : This sheet contains reactions data. It is devised in same format as the GTS output so that
minimum editing in GTS output is required. User can directly copy and paste the GTS output into this sheet.
Cases of single load case ( when GTS analysis is not done) may also be handled by this sheet.

Following may be noted :

(i) Green cells in this sheet are not meant for editing by user. Simply ignore the green colour
(ii) Read the comments carefully in cells A1, B1,C1,D1 and note in cell J7 before starting your design
(iii) For Input loading data please refer to the coordinate axis as shown in REACTIONS sheet. X-axis
must be parallel to column flange width ( parallel to width of base plate). Moment about Z-Z axis of column (as
shown in figure) should be zero for all the load cases.
(iv) Special Precautions have to be taken by the user to ensure correctness of directions of all the
forces and moments while pasting output reactions from GTS to REACTIONS sheet. Design forces
considered by the tool are having opposite sign as REACTIONS sheet . Hence user must enter
reactions and not the forces.
(v) Sign convention used in the sheet is as follows:a. Tension force considered positive.
b. Clockwise moment taken positive.
Note:- Signs mentioned here are for forces and not for reactions. User must not confuse forces with reactions.
(vi) Change value in black cell C1 according to length of data. For example if last load case data is in cell 670
then the value in this cell should be 670-15 = 655. Using this value, single load cases may be handled by
putting cell value as 1. Cells B1 and D1 should not be changed.
(vii) Delete all the data printed in Blue cells before running the macro.
(viii) Please note that this sheet is unprotected. Hence responsibility to ensure no other editing lies with the
user. It is very essential not to change any other cell in this sheet.

5b. DESIGN DATA : In this sheet, all the necessary design inputs are entered. Starting with Type of connaction, followed by column dimensions, material properties, Assumed Base plate dimensions, Anchor bolts

type and properties, Anchor locations, spacings, Anchor plate dimensions, Shear key parameters and stiffener
dimensions etc. Project specific permissible values based on design code may be changed here though it is

not encouraged. Please contact the developer of the workbook for any project specific changes. Note that minimum washer plate dimensions required for selected bolt diameter is obtained in this sheet (refer to cell E520
and E522). These dimensions are to be ensured in the drawings by the engineer.

5c. Calculations : This sheet is used to calculate base plate capacities, Compression capacity, Tension
capacity, Moment Capacity, and bearing capacity. All the calculations done in this sheet are based on
EN 1993-1-8:2005. In some cases DIN codes have also been referred for some calculations.

5d. Weld Design : Weld between column and base plate is being designed in this sheet. Additional moments
generated due to eccentric bracings (Both major axis moment and torsion) are also been handled in this sheet.

5e. Anchor Plate : This sheet is used for anchor plate design. Various checks are incorporated in this sheet
like anchor plate bending check, punching shear check, ETAG etc.

5f. Shear-key : Includes both orientation of shear key. It should be noted that in case of eccentric bracings,
shear key should be kept at center only as all the stresses calculated includes stresses due to additional moments generated as a result of eccentric bracings.

5g . Stiffener design : Stiffener design sheet includes buckling checks for horizontal and vertical directions.

5h . SUMMARY : By pressing the Summary button, a macro gets activated and a design summary is
automatically created for most critical load cases.

6.0 HOW TO USE THIS WORKBOOK:

STEP 1. In DESIGN DATA sheet, first choose a type of base plate connection as per READ ME sheet and
press "Apply case setting button". Now choose a preliminary section for the base plate based on engineer's
judgment. Data is to be filled only in black cells here.

STEP 2. While finalizing base plate dimensions, and giving input for Projection of base plate beyond column
edges, user need to check "c" calculation being performed at bottom of the sheet. Here user has to press
"Calculate C" button, and then finalize base plate projections equal to or more than "c" value. This is essential
to provide full compression capacity for that particular base plate. Moreover user should also check that plan
dimensions fixed by him results in "Large Projection Base Plate" in both directions.

STEP 2. After putting in all the inputs, come back to REACTIONS sheet and paste GTS output in empty cells.
Take care to fill appropriate value in cell C1 as explained above.

STEP 3. Now press Button "Run", to run main macro.

STEP 4. After one cycle of macro is completed carefully examine the maximum values of results in cells K3
AH3 and compare with permissible values. Check SAFE/UNSAFE status in row 5 of sheet REACTIONS

Report no : SPEL/XX/YYYY/XXX

Sheet 4 of 95

Project name AAANNN

APPENDIX - XX

DD MM YYYY

STEP 5. Identify the areas where changes need to be made for bringing all the calculated values within limits.
Make necessary changes in the input data.

STEP 6. Re-run the macro and repeat Step 5. Keep repeating till the desired level of accuracy
in results are obtained. After running macro each time if user wish to find out critical cases he should press
the button "For highlighting critical values press here" which will highlight maximum values with red colour.
STEP 7. After finalizing base plate design, go to SUMMARY sheet and press button "Summary".
This button initiates a macro which in turn creates a design summary for the most critical load cases. This
sheet can be added to the Report.

STEP 8. After finishing up all design steps(Step 1 to Step 7), User is first required to change Header and footer
settings as per project requirement, and then press button "PRINT" in SUMMARY sheet. This button will
initiate a macro which in turn will take a print of this workbook for report generation purpose. (Note:- Before
pressing "PRINT" button, the user must check his default printer settings by following this path
Control Panel
Printers and Faxes
Here select any of your mapped printer as your default printer by right clicking it. In case User wish to
create .Pdf files, He will have to select "Adobe PDF" as default printer. Before taking a print out, user should
hide "Stiffener design" sheet if stiffeners are not considered in design. This part is not handled by the sheet
automatically.)

Now the design along with documentation is complete.

IT IS HIGHLY RECOMMENDED NOT TO MAKE ANY OTHER CHANGES BY THE USER.

7.0 POINTS FOR FUTURE DEVELOPMENT

(i) Provision to be made for different weld size for shear key flange and web.
(ii) Thickness of plate to be checked for low temperature regions as per EN 1993-1-10.
