Cortland Ends 12th Ranked Rochesters 11 Game


Winning Streak
(CORTLAND, NY)- The Cortland State Field Hockey Team ended a weekend of play
with a 2-1 win over 12th ranked Rochester. Cortland is now 9-2 this season and Rochester drops
to 11-1.
Jillian Vogl and Shelby Underwood put up one goal each for the Dragons, neither of
which were assisted. Mairead Hourihan started in goal for the second time this season where she
recorded just one save.
Michelle Relin was the only Rochester Yellowjacket to break through the solid Cortland
defense scoring with just over 7 minutes left in regulation. Tara Lamberti played all 70 minutes
in goal and recorded a total of 10 of the 11 saves. Allison Resnick logged a defensive save off of
a shot by Emily Woods at 20:32.
The Cortland offense came out strong against Rochester by putting up nine shots and
earning nine penalty corners in the first half to Rochesters zero shots and one penalty corner.

Shelby Underwood scored the first goal of the game by lifting the ball into the left upper corner
of the net at 29:31.
The second half was more evenly matched with the Red Dragons having six shots to the
Yellowjackets five. Rochester was able to create six penalty corner opportunities to Cortlands
four. Both teams converted on just one of their penalty corners. Jillian Vogl was able to put the
ball passed Tara Lamberti and into the lower left corner creating a 2-0 lead with 9:19 left to play.
Not two minutes later, Michelle Relin ripped a shot from the top of the circle that wound up
being deflected into the goal by the defense, cutting the lead to one.
The Yellowjackets took it to Cortland in the final minutes of regulation, however, the
Red Drangons held on and came away with a 2-1 victory.
The Red Dragons dont play again until next Saturday in a SUNYAC Conference home
game against the Golden Eagles of Brockport. The contest begins at 1PM. Brockport is 3-9 on
the season after coming off of a 4-2 in-conference loss to SUNY Oneonta. Rochester travels to
their Liberty League rival, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (4-5), on Friday with a 4PM start
time.
