Welcome Back Cadets!!! A Month In Review

Welcome back to another great school year. We hope that your summer was a great one.
Weve had a great start so far. This summer 12 of our cadets attended JCLC. Cadets Bailey
Meyer, Bruno Hernandez, Hannah Sandefur, Codey Ibrahim, JingWen Cen, Marissa England,
Alma Garcia-Herrera, Kyle Wickline, Destiny Short, Destiny Jones, Skyla Sutphin, and Kyle
Garrett all represented our school at camp. A special shout-out to JingWen Cen for earning the
Platoon Leadership award for her platoon. Also on 6 August, 21 of our cadets represented our
school at service learning project for the Alert CDC Fun fest. Cadets Handed out backpacks
and school supplies to kids. Our cadets in the first month have accomplished a lot. Weve
officially sent out all of our fundraising letters!! Thanks to all the cadets who sent out their
letters. We had our first school football game on 26 August 2016 against Smyrna. Our first
color guard went well as well as our first parking detail. Thank you to all cadets that
participated in the party, the color guard, and parking detail.

Fundraising Tailgate Party

On 26 August, our cadets that turned
in their letters got to enjoy a
tailgating party for our first game
against Smyrna. There was dancing
and food and everyone overall had a
great time. Our upperclassmen got to
get to know some of our new cadets
and the freshman got to socialize with
cadets outside their company.

FRESHMAN CAMP by Cadet Makayla Beard
I enjoyed the freshman JROTC camp because it helped give me an understanding of what
an everyday class was going to be like. I really enjoyed doing the obstacle course out back,
performing some drill, and meeting the upperclassmen and meeting the other freshmen. I was
mostly surprised that the upper level cadets were leading the class, not the instructors. The
week was fun and exciting and I hope that one day I can be able to lead the class.
BECOMING A LEADER by Cadet Bruno Hernandez
Becoming a leader is a new slate and new to the program was hard and kind of stressful
but I always pushed myself to do better and to move forward. I got a lot of support from the
upperclassmen. In my first month of joining this program, I felt as if I was joining part of a team,
more than that a family that supported me and my success. Now it is my turn to be a role
model for the new future leaders and be just as supportive to them.
COMING THIS FAR by Cadet Destiny Short
When I first joined JROTC, I was terrified of the authority and the upperclassmen. As I
progressed my LET 1 year, they helped come out of my shell and helped me become a better
cadet and student. I feel like Ive come miles from where I started my freshman year and
progressed into a strong leader. As long as you put effort into everything that you do in this
program, youll progress into a strong leader. During my LET 4 year, I plan to take on more
responsibility and to become even stronger and better leader.
ADVICE FOR NEW CADETS by Cadet Caleb Saiyasak
Page 4 of 5

As a LET 1, make academics your priority. Its the most important part of school here.
While it is fun to goof off and avoid homework, you will have to focus on getting things done
and done on time. This isnt advice for just JROTC, for all academic classes.
