Discussion of Application of the x=PlotTechnique

to the Study of Water Influx in the

Ershaghi et al. have made a significard contribution to research on

water influx in Application of the x-Plot Technique to the Study
of Water Influx in the Sidi E1-ltayem Reservoir, Tunisia (Sept.
1987 JPT, Pages 1127-36). I have read this paper carefully. I am
quite agreeable to changing from an improved graphic technique
of plotting cut vs. recovery as suggested by Robertson] to the
original x-plot. 2 But 1 do not think a fractional cut is easier to handle than the tofai actual volume produced.
Additiomlly, I also agree that the laboratory Wnmtbility curves
may not h extrapolated to actual field conditions because of layering
and permeability variations that affect the field composite relative
permeability; therefore, the modified equation
.r=mzNp+nr

(D-1)

and actual field performance data must be used to estimate cumulative water throughput at any high water cut from the slope of the

x-plot. This equation and procedure resemble the inverse form

Np=m.t+n

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . ..(D-Z)

used3 to estimate ultimate oil recovery.

Perhaps there will be wide use of the x-plot recbnique hereatier.
