Massive storm shattered

Australia and an entire state was rushed
into darkness wednessday afternoon as
the worst storm in times hit the country
with power.
The forceful weather caused a
blackout the whole of South Australia,
with traffic lights out of act and trams
and trains to be cancelled, making travel
almost impossible.
Destruction to infrastructure
near Port Augusta led the whole
electricity network to shut down, anything
did not appear to be any damage to the
interconnector with Victoria and that the
Australian Energy Market Operator was
working to get the power back on.
SA Power Nets website said
around 200,000 properties were without
power, with the blackout not predictable
to be completely over until later last night.
There was a fleetingcalm in
South Australia, but an intense lowpressure system moves closer this
morning, bringing with it force winds of
up to 120km/h and plenty more rain.
Trees were carried down and
there were reports of some flooding in
Mildura as strong winds from the storm
entered Victoria about 10pm.
Heavy rain would follow for the
next two days and emergency services

would closely
monitor North
East
and
North West
Victoria still
busy by recent
floods.
Melbourne
was expected
to get winds
about half that
speed, but
breezes of up
to 110km/h
w e r e
expected in high places such as Mt Buller.
The state capitals roads were
totally locked as police were forwarded
to guide traffic at intersections and
residents were warned to avoid travel
wherever possible.
Police called on all people to
avoid travel last night, with the blackout
causing widespread traffic troubles. Few
buses were made available for some
commuters. Hospitals and some other
buildings were operating as normal on
back-up power.
SA Ambulance asked South
Australians to only call Triple 000 in a
genuine life threatening emergency and
SA Power advised people to conserve
their mobile device batteries and prepare

for prolonged outages. Adelaide Airport

said flights had been disrupted by the
storm and told passengers to check with
their airline
By late afternoon the State
Emergency Service had responded to
more than 330 calls for help, most
because of fallen trees or rising water.
It earlier spread more than 43,000
sandbags to local inhabitants concerned
about possible flooding after severe
weather just two weeks ago flooded 80
homes across Adelaide and the Mt Lofty
Ranges.
SA fire services cautioned the
public to ensure all heating, cooking and
other appliances in use when power went
out are switched off.

Banker allowed to leave NZ

A banker who apparently
accepted some of the mortgages in a $40
million Serious Fraud Office case is
allowed to travel overseas - provided he
puts up $500,000 as security.
The
Serious
Fraud
Officecharged four people - three men
and a woman - with obtaining by
dishonesty earlier this month. They all
have name conquest. According to court
documents, one of the suspect is a lawyer,
another is a banker, one is a manager and
one is a director. The SFO claims that
the lawyer, manager and director provided
incorrect information or withheld facts to
get more than $40million of property loans.
Not all of the offenders are
suspect of all of the unproven antisocial
and the case is understood to involve 75
properties in Auckland and Hamilton.
According to court documents, untrue
salary outgoings were made as part of
the applications for some of the loans in
the case.
Banks were also supposedly
provided with fake income and
employment information. The accused
banker allegedly treated and approved
loan applications for the purchase of
properties that he knew "were not true
purchases, or was irresponsible as to
whether they were", the Serious Fraud
Officehas unproven in court documents.

This week, the banker had his bail

terms diverse by a High Court judge,
allowing him travel overseas temporarily.
However, in order to get his passport back
he was required to cabin a $500,000 cash
surety with the court. The man is
allowable to leave New Zealand provided
he first offer the details of his travel
bookings to the Serious Fraud Officewith
copies of the travel tickets.
He must return to New Zealand
by November 15 and hand his passport
back the following day. Any breach of
these conditions, subject to any court
order, will result in the penalty of the
$500,000, which the offender will get back
after he returns to the country.

Tower Insurance refunding, customers

Tower Insurance is repaying
23,000 customers after it overpriced them
on policies. The company sent out letters
to pretentious customers saying a
technical issue meant some multi-policy
reductions were overvalued.
The company apologised for the
error and said the repayment would be
credited to their account within five
working days. "The error occurred due
to a mechanical issue and is moved to
correct it as soon as it was identified.
Approximately 23,000 customers have
been exaggerated by this error and those
who are due a refund will obtain this over
the coming days." Less than 10 per cent

of Tower customers have been affected,

which relates to customers with multiple
policies reintroduced between October 1
2014 and August 31 2016.
"This is due to technical issues
that wedged some Tower Insurance,
FinTel, Kiwibank and TSB customers
who had multiple policies with us."
Tower learned the Financial
Markets Authority and the Commerce
Commission of the issue and had been
keeping them informed of the
development in deciding it. The company
has also reserved financial consultancy
firm EY to audit its procedures and
safeguard this was set right.

Kiwi politicians praise Hillary Clinton

Kiwi politicians who watched the Presidential debate have praised Hillary Clintons dignity and pride - but arent
certain how much her presentation will help in the election. Act Party leader David Seymour is presently in the US and viewed
the debate at Rudys Bar & Grill in New York. He said the throng there creaked and laughed at many of Trumps comments.
As a elector who reflects a lot about politics, I thought Hillary won hands down - she had poise, detail and well-practised oneliners. However, Seymour said he supposed that Trumps performance would howevervibrate more with voters who would
eventually decide the election. Amongst the people that matter, Trump tacked it. He had real yarns, he made more practical
points. He had the advantage of being able to say, what have you done in the last 30 years? Green Party global affairs orator
Dr Kennedy Graham said he thought Trump did better than predictable. National Party MP Chris Bishop also watched the
debate and said in a purely debating sense Clinton was superior by far. She was more practical and well-spoken and,
fatefully, she battled the many opportunities to interject Trump - letting his often twisting and sometimes superior answers
speak for themselves. But the critical question will be who won over those middle ground voters in the ground states that
choose the election. Polls in the next few days will show whether the debate has made a difference or not.

Kiran Rao stands for internet Ajay Devgn talks about Shivay

Filmmaker Kiran
Rao is worried about
internet addiction among
children and feels it is as a

look after how much time
the young minds are

She said "I have a

parent, as a mom we have
a responsibility of how much
internet time you should give

Ajay Devgn's is
happy
with
the
encouraging response
the trailer has received
and is busy travelling
around the country to
gauge reactions. He says he is now busy
editing and working out the promotional
campaign. Apart from being the producer,
he is also acting in it and directing it.
Ajay said that shooting in
Bulgaria was risky but he enjoyed every
minute of it. "In Bulgaria, the locations
are tough, but there is access and
infrastructure. If that kind of infrastructure
was there at Mt Everest, I would have
shot there, but there isn't. Then there is 25 degree temperature in Bulgaria and
we could get the right kind of equipment
there. How would I save my unit if we
didn't have the proper shoes and jackets
for -30 degree, freezing cold weather? It
was a very risky shoot, but we were
prepared for it and hats off to my unit.
They stood there and made sure we
completed the shoot. I got hypothermia
once, but except for that incident,
everybody was fine. We had doctors and
ambulances on the sets. I was lucky to
get some good weather there. If I was
supposed to shoot for 60 days and I had
light only from 9 am to 4pm, they said

that the weather would

be bad. I said it won't be
and true enough,
whenever I would walk
out of the hotel to shoot,
the weather would be
perfect with bright sunshine. We had kept
buffers to compensate, in case the
weather changed, but we never needed
those. For a 60-day shoot, we shot the
film in 40 days and completed it before
time."
Speaking about the trailer, he said,
"We want to create intrigue. And this
suspense will be there until the release.
It's not about the story, but about the
screenplay. I want people to go and see
the screenplay too. I am very lucky to
also get the right kind of casting in Erika
Kaar, Sayyeshaa and the little girl Abigail
Eames. I would call the film an actionemotion-drama. My action is real, not
unnecessary flying or hitting. In the trailer,
when you see the expression on my face,
it's of pain when I am hitting people. The
villain is something we want to keep a secret
till the very last minute till the Friday the
film releases. I know it's unusual, but we
don't want to reveal the villain's identity of
the film. Every trailer released will keep the
people guessing as there are lots of twists
and turns in the film."

Rohit Shetty
is one of the most

five minute ad film
with Ranveer Singh.
And the two had a
great time making it.
In an interview, Rohit
spoke about how they
two came to do this project together. He
said, YashRaj Film's Ashish Patil came to
me to direct this ad and they asked me to
handle the production side. Ranveer and
I met to discuss the concept. We had met
earlier a number of times. He was very
excited about doing this ad. The most
important thing is that Ranveer is a very
sweet, down-to-earth and nice guy.
Everybody knows by now, that whatever
he is doing is not to create aninsight. He
is not artificial. That's the way he is a
harmless guy who speaks from his heart

so directly we crystallised."
Rohit said, "Ranveer's a star, but
he doesn't bring that air or attitude on the

how big he is. The first time he had come

For spans, the sleepy valley nuzzled

in the Indian Himalayas remained a hidden
Buddhist enclave prohibited to foreigners.
Enduring the tough year-round situations of
the high mountain desert, the people of Spiti
Valley lived by a simple common code share
the Earth's abundance, be hospitable to
neighbours, and shun greed and attraction at
all turns.
That'sinitial to change, for better or
worse. Since India commencedletting its own
citizens as well as outsiders to visit the valley
in the early 1990s, tourism and trade have
boomed. And the marks of upgrading, such
as solar panels, tar roads and real buildings,
have begun to appear around some of the
villages that mark the remote landscape at
altitudes above 4000 metres.
By August 29, with at least a month
left until the end of the tourism period, there
had been 847 foreign guests to the area in
2016, compared with 726 for all of last year.
They could not give a figure for how many
Indians had travelled to the region in jeeps
and buses across traitorous mountain roads,
as Indian tourists do not need special
licences. But district officialJagan Thakur
said 70% of the tourists were Indians.
"In years when the climate and
roads are decent, they drove in together in
high numbers," Thakur said. "Villagers will
actually convert their houses into
homestays." In the hillside village of Demul,
with only around 250 populations, people
have invented a system whereby half of the
residents move in with their neighbours while

renting their earthen-hut homes to itinerants

during the summer, and then share the
earnings. This income is helping many invest
in better schooling for their kids.
"They collectively bring all the
money together and at the end of the year
they distribute it equally to the whole
village."Tourism has become so important it
now makes up at least half of most people's
annual income, official said The rest of the
people's wealth comes from traditional
channels - herding sheep and goats, and
growing crops like black beans, barley and,
more recently, green peas.
For the crimson-robed Buddhist
monks in the valley, the increase in visitors
brings a chance to "impart Buddhism to
others. More people should learn about it,"
said a resident of another hilltop village. Some
villagers and travellers care that the entry of
new funds will bring competition, greed and
environmentally taxing modification such
as flush toilets that might empty straight into
the Spiti River or put a strain on the region's
already limited water sources. "We cannot
go outside our limits. Mass tourism is not
good for our culture," said the resident
person, who runs a homestay in the valley
village of Kibber and works as a tourist guide.
"Hospitality is important in Spiti's culture, and
we will not let it disappear." While growing
trade with cities outside the valley has
widened the dinner table with grains that can't
be grown in the valley, it has also brought an
inflow of junk food that the elders are stressed
to keep away from the children.

Anupam Kher: doesnt matter Amir Khan other side than Mr

to me- the social Fire
Perfectionist
Anupam Kher made film experts
and critics sit up and take notice of him
when at the age of 28, he played anupset,
superannuated man who loses his son in
Saaransh. Over the last 32 years, Anupam
Kherhas depicted the sometimes unusual,
at times hilarious, at times powerful, but
mostly undoubted, and very often a loving
dad on celluloid. Now, he will be seen as
Indian cricket captain Mahendra Singh
Dhoni's father, Pan Singh, in Neeraj
Pandey's 'MS Dhoni - The Untold Story'.
In an exclusive interview, the old-timer
actor opens up about the qualities that a
father should instruct his children, his
Hollywood films, why he never wavers
to take a stand, social media arguments
and more. Excerpts...

Bollywood?
Dhoni's documentary is not just
a sports film. It is the story of his life, his
journey and an inspiring film. Many sports
films are being made but I can't recall
any being my much-loved film, except for
'Bhaag Milkha Bhaag'.

You have worked with Neeraj Pandey

in quite a few films. Was your past
association with him the only reason
that prompted you to do this biopic?
Yes, Neeraj is a big motive. Also,
though I have played a father on screen
countless times, this time the task was to
essay the role of an regular, simple man.
Not much is known about Pan
Singh. So, it was interesting for me to
enact him on screen. At an expressive
level, it was important for me that he likes
my depiction in the film. When I met him
and told him that I would be playing his
character, he said, "Agar aap kar rahe
ho, toh mujhe koi tension nahin hai."
While we all refer to Mahendra as MS
Dhoni, it was nice to hear his dad call
him 'Mahiya'. He said, "Haan Mahiya
ka phone aaya tha." All these
experiences were inspiring.

Kader Khan felt that you did not

deserve the Padma Bhushan this year.
And the argument continued for a long
time on social media. What do you have
to say?
I respect Kader Khan as
aperformer but in our country he does not
decide who will get the National Award.
The Indian government decides.

As a father, what are the vital qualities

that one needs to inculcate in their
children?
There is nothing like honesty and
hard work. Truth alone successes, so one
must understand that failure is
animpermanent phase and cheerfulness
is the only way to live your life.
Right now, sports films are the taste of

We see a sudden outpouring from you

on many issues which create a anger
on social media. Do you think you
outside a lot of heat because you speak
your mind?
I'm under fire on social media for
speaking my mind, but it doesn't matter
to me. As long as I feel calm and sure of
what I am doing, it is alright. It is essential
for people to speak up.

You have been extremely voiced about

your admiration for PM Narendra
Modi. Does this help you in your
political principles?
Narendra Modi is a great leader.
What's wrong if I like him? Some people
may not like him and have their own
views. This is my nationalistic view, not a
radical one.
Do you feel it is right to make celebs
answerable for the brands that they
endorse?
There were some issues with a
real estate company of which you were
the brand representative. It is difficult to
be careful when you choose to authorise
a brand. How can you know what will
happen after 10 years? We are going by
the face value. If something uncalled for
happens, it is sad. But actors are targeted
for anything these days.

Bollywood superstar Aamir

Khan, who is often marked with Mr
Perfectionist, is known to be a rather
solitary and calculative person when it
comes to speaking his core and mind out.
Hence, it came as anagreeable surprise
when the actor was lately seen in a rather
fun-loving mood during his talk with a
news channel. Aamir was in a mood to
crack a few jokes and to entertain our
funny bones. Amir, "What did Tarzan say
when he saw an elephant coming? He
said 'an elephant is coming'. What did
Tarzan say when he saw two leopards
coming? He said, 'here come my new

pair of underwears'". Now, we wonder

why Aamir decided to bang this joke out
of the blue but we arent complaining as
long as we get to see him being frank
and letting his protectors down once in a
while. On the professional front, Aamir
is coming up with the release of his next
biggie, Dangal and will advanced be
seen in a cameo role in Secret
Superstar. However, one film that his
fans are already waiting for with a bated
breath is Yash Raj Films Thugs of
Hindostan that brings Aamir and Amitabh
Bachchan together for the first time on
the screen.

Bengali Rasgullas
Rasgullas are homemade cheese
or paneer balls soaked in chilled sugar
syrup. This recipe is made using a
pressure cooker. Makes 12 rasgullas
Ingredients:
4 cups milk
1/4 cup lemon juice
1 1/2 cups sugar
4 1/2 cups water
Pressure cooker
Method :
Paneer: Mix lemon juice in half cup of
hot water and keep aside. Boil the milk in
a heavy bottomed pan over medium heat,
stirring occasionally, making sure not to
burn milk. As the milk comes to a boil,
add the lemon juice gradually and stir the
milk gently. The curd will start separating
from the whey, turn off the heat. Once
the milk fat has separated from the whey,
drain the whey using a strainer line with
cheesecloth or muslin cloth.
Wrap the curd in a muslin cloth,
and rince under cold water, and squeeze
well. This process takes out the sourness
from the lemon. To take out the excess
water squeeze the cloth, or press the
wrapped paneer under a heavy pan for
about one hour.Taking the right amount
of water out of the paneer is the most
important part of this recipe.
To check if enough water is out
of the paneer, take a little piece of paneer
on your palm and rub with your fingers.
After rubbing the paneer for about 15-20
seconds, you should be able to make a
firm but smooth ball. Once the paneer is
drained, place on a dry, clean surface and
knead the paneer for 3-4 minutes until the
paneer is almost rolls into smooth soft
dough. Knead the paneer by dragging the
palm of your hand hard on the paneer.
Keep scooping it back to togather and
knead more. If the paneer is too crumbly,
add a teaspoon of water. Your palm will

be little greasy.
Rasgulla: Divide the dough into 12 equal
parts and roll them into smooth balls. To
make the balls apply some pressure at
the first and then release when forming
the balls. Mix the sugar and water in a
pressure cooker on medium high heat and
bring to a boil. Add the paneer balls and
close the pressure cooker. After the
pressure cooker starts steaming, turn the
heat to medium and cook for about seven
minutes. Make sure the pressure cooker
is large enough to accommodate the
finished Rasgullas, as they will expand to
about double in the volume while cooking
in the syrup. Close the heat and wait a
few minutes before you opening the
pressure cooker. Pour cold water over
the pressure cooker before opening.
Rasgullas should be little spongy. After
rasgullas are refrigerated the sponginess
will reduce and will be soft in texture.
Serve the Rasgullas chilled.
Suggestions:
If the Rasgullas dont turn out
exactly the way you want, they are hard
or not the right shape, do not worry.
Therere many ways to create new dish
out of the imperfect Rasgullas! For
example, if the Rasgullas are too hard or
broken, try cutting them into small pieces
and mix with soft vanilla ice cream or
cover with melted chocolate. You can use
the Rasgulla pieces to make kheer,
replacing rice with the Rasgulla pieces.

Healthy Eating Tip

To set yourself up for success, think about planning a healthy diet as a
number of small, manageable steps rather than one big drastic change. If you
approach the changes gradually and with commitment, you will have a healthy
diet sooner than you think.
Simplify: Instead of being overly concerned with counting calories or measuring
portion sizes, think of your diet in terms of color, variety, and freshness. This
way it should be easier to make healthy choices. Focus on finding foods you
love and easy recipes that incorporate a few fresh ingredients. Gradually, your
diet will become healthier and more delicious.
Start slow and make changes to your eating habits over time: Trying to
make your diet healthy overnight isnt realistic or smart. Changing everything at
once usually leads to cheating or giving up on your new eating plan. Make small
steps, like adding a salad (full of different color vegetables) to your diet once a
day or switching from butter to olive oil when cooking. As your small changes
become habit, you can continue to add more healthy choices to your diet.
Every change you make to improve your diet matters: You dont have
to be perfect and you dont have to completely eliminate foods you enjoy to
have a healthy diet. The long term goal is to feel good, have more energy, and
reduce the risk of cancer and disease. Dont let your missteps derail you
every healthy food choice you make counts.

Bebo celebrates her 36th I made myself believe that I

birthday
was MS Dhoni
Kareena Kapoor, who is
mother to be, celebrated her 36th
birthday with a select only-family
and close friends dinner at her
Bandra residence on 21 sep night.
"We're a noisy family of foodies,"
exclaimed daddy Randhir Kapoor,
ruing the fact that his brother, Rishi
and Rajeev, couldn't make it.
"There are so many of us all over
the country that it's impossible to
bring us all together under one roof,
but quite a few of us turned up to
wish Bebo good health. We cannot
wait for her child to come along,
I'm going to spoil my grandchild!"
The amity the 69-year-old actorfilmmaker shares with his nawab son-inlaw was apparent when he revealed that
every time he raves about how well Bebo,
a wonderful daughter and a honourable
woman, has balanced her personal and
professional life, Saif (Ali Khan) is the
first to opinion that she's a better wife
than a daughter.
"Kareena is one of the loveliest
people I know," hold forth Kareena's
friend and the manager Poonam Damania
who was also at the party. "She's a family
person and loves spending time with her

close ones." Poonam too had her fan-girl

instant with Ranbir Kapoor who obliged
her with a warm hug as he posed for the
album. His upcoming film, Karan Johar's
Ae Dil Hai Mushkil was the hot topic of
conversation with everybody predicting
the fate of the film till Bebo decided to
have the last word, repeating that even if
her brother gave 25 flops, he'd still be a
superstar! RK, who turns 34 on
September 28, stayed back late, sipping
wine and inviting everyone to a party at
his new home next week.

Sushant Singh Rajput is not a

person who think himself dependable. By
his own charge, in spite of acting well and
good cricket kill in the film 'MS Dhoni:
The Untold Story', he is still not confident
enough of his acting and review of the
audience. "Our job is to give our 100% to
the movie and the moment it hits the target
at the box office, we feel on the right side,''
says Sushant.
According to Sushant, emulating
Dhoni alone would not have served so he
fell into the character more naturally by
making himselfbelieve that he is Dhoni.
He also watched shots of about 1,000
hours presenting the cricketer on the
cricket ground as well as off it. It helped
that being a Dhoni fan, Sushant was
somewhat familiar with the cricketer's
important hits which were overstated by
a full range of classy shots, including the
dramatic helicopter shots.

Sushant was alsoskilled by

former cricketer Kiran More. Not only
him, there was a physio and an analyst.
So, the whole process, according to the
actor, it was quite hard but he was put in
through his stepsevery day. He spent four
months learning the tones of batting and
wicket keeping.
Sushant has always got a thrill
out of playing different roles, and doing
the protagonist of a player of Dhoni's
figure, which added more star to his
career path. He has also enjoyed playing
the character of Ishaan in 'Kai Po Che'
which was totally different from his role
of Raghu in 'Shudh Desi Romance'.
However, Sushant has always
safeguarded against taking up projects
that don't stimulate him. He mentioned
assaying that an actor should always be
in a position to be selective about his
roles.

Upcoming actor: Harshvardhan

Kapoor
All eyes are waiting for.
Anil
Kapoor's
son
Harshvardhan who is all set
ready to make his big Bollywood
entrance with Rakeysh
Omprakash Mehra's upcoming
'Mirzya' that also stars another
debutant Saiyami Kher. Coming
up from a family of capable
actors like Anil and Sonam Kapoor, which
leads to huge expectations from
Harshvardhan's tender shoulders.
Considering Harsh comes from
a actors family that has been close to
valued production houses like Yash Raj
Films and Dharma Productions, which are
known to give newcomers their big
Bollywood breaks, it comes as a shock
that Harsh decided to choose a path less
travelled and an unusual love story which
is helmed by Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra
who has a very unique and individual way
of dealing with romance and re-counting
love stories.
Question reached him why he

didn't make his debut with a Yash Raj or

a Dharma film and Harsh comes with the
answer that was almost unbelievable.
Harsh, "Yash Raj and Dharma don't offer
me films. And I don't even know why.
Only filmmakers like Rakeysh
Omprakash Mehra, Vikramaditya
Motwane, Sriram Raghavan and the likes
offer me films. I don't understand why,
maybe there's something wrong with me."
Well, now that you have taken
your message loud and clear to these
reputed banners, Harsh, we hope they
soon approach you with a great script and
offer you a role you wouldn't afford to
say no to! Good Luck!
