Masthead the masthead has been positioned with only one

strap line above it. The font used is very modern and sans serif
in form. This once again creates a modern atmosphere which
is appealing to a young target audience.

Date line the date has been added in the very top right
hand corner. This allows the remainder of the cover to take
the main focus yet it remains in the highlighting yellow
shade so that it is still obvious.
Puff the puff is the only
section in the hot pink colour
and this allows it to stand out
highly. As well as this the
paint spill shape has been
complimented by the
onomatopoeia splat! within
it. This may represent the art
students as well as
contrasting the modern feel
of sans serif fonts.

Strap line the strap line on

this cover is very discrete and
acts as a slogan for the
magazines brand. This has
been positioned just above
the masthead as it doesnt
need to have any large focus.
Website the website has
been added to maintain the
idea of a modern magazine.
This is desirable when aiming
at a young target audience.
Main image the student within
the main image appears happy and
content. The mixed race student
creates the impression of unity and
community. These are ideas which
colleges would want to promote
highly. Furthermore, the student is
holding books which creates a very
studious atmosphere which once
again the college would want to
promote. I think that the colour
scheme of the cover will have been
influenced highly by the midshot
due to the gender of the student
and simplistic monochrome
costume chosen.

Cover lines the cover

lines are in the highlighting
yellow and white. The
main focus being on the
yellow which has been
used to highlight the titles
and key articles. This
creates a sense of fluidity
with the masthead.
Barcode the pug has been positioned in
the bottom left hand corner so that no
attention is taken away from the main
image or cover lines. Despite this, due to
the black background and costume
choice, the white barcode does stand out
quite highly which could be perceived as
being distracting.

Rule of thirds the cover has been

separated into thirds both vertically and
horizontally but is more successful vertically.
The rule of thirds is broken by the cover lines
slightly but this can aid the audience in
reading across the page so that they are
drawn in by the cover liens as opposed to
the image.

Colour scheme the colour scheme on this cover is black, white and yellow.
These colours have very masculine connotations which fits with the use of a
male model; thus creating the impression that the target audience of this
edition is young, male students. Despite this, the hot pink contrasting colour
really stands out and carries feminine connotations to heighten the contrast
created.

Overall, I think that this cover is very successful due to the consistent use of modern fonts
and the use of features in order to target the specific audience. The consistent colour
scheme creates a sense of fluidity as well as gearing the magazine to the male audience
desired.
