Environmental and Social Specialist (Permanent)

ENVIRONMENTAL AND SOCIAL SPECIALIST


Scott Wilson Mozambique, Lda is a leading integrated design and engineering consultancy service
provider for the built and natural environments and is offering an exciting opportunity for a talented
specialist to be part of our progressive team. The Environmental and Social Specialist shall be
responsible for leading the teams carrying out the environmental and social impact assessment of
infrastructure development projects;
JOB DESCRIPTION
Key functions of the position include:

Provide leadership on Environmental and Social issues to the Business Units of the organization
and contribute towards the organisations strategies on Environmental and Social issues which feed
into sustainable development
Lead the Environmental Division for the delivery of its objectives, including building partnerships
and networks
Develop and maintain a good working knowledge of relevant international legislation where Scott
Wilson operates
Remain abreast of current developments in Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) thinking and
practices
Take leadership in the development and implementation of environmental management plans
(EMPs) and environmental management systems (EMSs)

COMPETENCIES:
Experience in environmental and social impact assessment and the development of mitigation measures
associated with particular focus on infrastructure development projects. Experience in community
development addressing resettlement issues and social impact assessment, including preparation of
resettlement action plans and stakeholder consultation associated with new infrastructure projects.
KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE
Minimum 10 years of relevant experience in the field of Environmental and Social Impact Assessments
with extensive knowledge in formulation and implementation of Environment, Health and Safety strategies
and related concepts. He/she must also have work experience in Africa and be fully cognizant of the
approach to ESIA and gender-related issues, including the application of OP 4.12, IFC and Equator
Principles.
Candidate must be fluent in English and knowledge of Portuguese is an added advantage.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelors or Honours degree in a technical discipline, preferably natural sciences, augmented by formal
qualifications in environmental sciences, a relevant masters degree will be advantageous.
