Viscosity
Prepare the mud using a mixer.
Set up the Fann viscometer.
The mud cup was filled with the mud to a specific level.
The machine is swithed on and set it to 600 rpm speed for one minute.
After that, the machine rested for one minute.
The machine was adjusted to run a 600 rpm speed and record the first reading once the machine is
switched on.
7. Step 1 to 6 was repeated for another two times and repeated at different speed 300 rpm, 200rpm,
100rpm, 6 rpm, 3rpm.
B) Measuring gel strength.
1. The sample was stirred at 600rpm. Then, rest for a minute.
2. The gear shift knobs were set to 3rpm position and turn the motor to the off position.
3. After the desired wait time, the motor was turned to on position at low speed.
4. The dail was read at the moment the gel breaks as noted by a peak dial reading. The gel
strength units are lb/1000ft2.
Yield point (Yp) = 300 0.5 N/m2 (lb/1000ft2)
Part B: Determination of viscosity by using marsh funnel.
1.
2.
3.
4.

Results:

The downhole of the funnel was blocked with finger.

The funnel was filled with 200ml of mud.
The stopwatch was started once the mud unblocked.
Record the time once the mud not flow out continuously.
