Equipment Assignment The Submission date is 23/04/2013

1. Determine average hourly production of a CAT D7R power shift dozer is used in a
pushing operation. The dozer is equipped with a straight Universal blade. The material is
dry and non-cohesive silty sand that weighs 2800 lb/lcy in the loose state. The center of
mass to center of mass pushing is 200 ft uphill on a 5% grade. The operator is excellent
and will be performing in good conditions. The job efficiency is assumed to be a 50
minute hour.
2. For each of the stated conditions determine the probable production expressed in cubic
yards per hour bank measure for an excavator equipped with a 3-cy bucket. The
excavator has a maximum digging depth of 11 ft. Use a30-min-hour efficiency factor.

Condition Class of material

Sand and gravel Rock well blasted Hard tough clay
Loading height of (ft) 12 8 19
3. A 7-cy wheel loader will be used to load a crusher from a quarry stockpile of blasted rock
(average breakage) 180 ft away. The rock has a loose unit weight of 2,700 lb/cy. Estimate
the loader production in tons based on a 50-min-hour efficiency factor. Use a
conservative fill factor.
4. A grader will be used to maintain 2.5 miles of haul road. It is estimated that this work
will require three passes in first gear, leveling the road requires two passes in second
gear, and final shaping of the road requires two passes in fourth gear. Use an efficiency
factor of 60%. Grader speeds are given in the next chart. What is the time requirement for
this task?

Forward gears Maximum travel speed (mph)

First 2.3
Second 3.2
Third 4.4
Forth 6.4
5. An earth moving project has a loader with 6 CY heaped capacity bucket for filling 23.5
CY heaped capacity of tucks. The equipment operates at 45 minute hours. Loaders
produce a bucket fill factor of 90% and the truck fill factor is 95%. Loader cycle time is
0.6 minute and truck dump time is 0.5.The loaded tuck is expected to travel uphill 3000
ft and return empty the same distance . With loaded speed 10 mph and 30 mph empty
speed. Therefore what is the probable hourly production?
 N.B. If there is any missed information’s please take assumptions.
