DETERMINATION OF IONS PRESENT IN COMPOUND X

AIM: To determine the cations and anion present in salt X.
APPARATUS AND MATERIALS:

Salt X
Acidified potassium
permanganate.
HCl
NaOH
HNO3 solution
Ba (NO3)2 solution

TEST
1) Heat the salt gently
at first, then
strongly in a dry
test tube. Keep the
residue for further
tests.
2) Make an aqueous
solution of the salt.

3) To a few ml of the
solution prepared
add NaOH (aq) and
warm.

4) To the aqueous
solution add
ammonia solution.

Ammonia solution
Red and Blue litmus

Test tubes
Bunsen burner

OBSERVATION

INFERENCE

5) To the solution add


dilute HNO3
followed by Ba
(NO3)2 (aq).
6) To the aqueous
solution add AgNO3
(aq)
