Abstract
Peresean widely known as the culture of the people of Lombok, because peresean can show
and can cultivate courage, agility and toughness of a person in a battle, peresean also be
interpreted as prayer community capsicum bring rain and as a carrier for the good of the
culture in Lombok.

I.

Introduction

The reason of making this paper is that we can find out about the various cultures in the area
of Lombok in general, particularly what they called peresean in their culture because culture
is arguably rarely or never at all we see. Lombok called cultural community could be
interpreted peresean as tradisional sport that is done by the people of Lombok sasak tribe.
This culture can also be interpreted to see the extent to which maturity of men in there to deal
with the enemy and to keep the family or society, when deploying peresean also sometimes
reffered to as the called a rain, influence peresean able to bring the impact of increasingly rich
and varied repertoire of Sasak culture. As a form of meeting (diffusion, acculturation,
inculturation) culture. As in the case of Art, as well as art forms in chilli highly original and
newcomers diverse. Art complements each other so as to create new genres. And also
pereseam brings a lot of positive impact on society at large capsicium, with their peresean
good character and attitude can be applied and also community Lombok keep running and
follow all the cultures of the people before. A lot of their cultural influence in the region

their peresean. And also the influence can be felt ny the person who plays the culture, they
can better appreciate their culture, more appreciative of their culture, responsibilities and of
Lombok of society gets a lot of chaanges because the culture itself.

II.

Analysis

How peresean effects Lombok society


Peresean is a traditional martial art parts between two people who called pepadu using a bat

ground, and as a protective shield called ende made of cowhide or buffalo leather. Peresean
also is a traditional sport that is done by the people of Lombok Sasak tribe. Peresean in

still alive among the community. This tradition often find among the people of Lombok.
People who usually take part in the race this peresean similar adults who are mentally and
physically strong.1
Peresean used to be done by the people of Lombok (Sasak) that sport at each other with the
rod held in the dry season aiming for rain on the creator. This Peresean once the emotional
outbursts of the king and the soldiers having won the battle on the battlefield. Besides
Peresean is also a medium for the fighters in a test of courage, resilience and agility they were
in a fight. The art continues today among the Sasak to become a tradition. In its development,
this art is not only held for local communities, but also held to welcome the guests large or
tourists who visit there. This art also is a medium for the fighters or men in a test of courage,
toughness, and their agility. Although there is an element of violence in it, but Peresean has a
message of peace. Every fighter who participated in the show are required to have a brave
soul, humble, and not vindictive.2
In the show, Peresean usually held in a place that is wide enough, so that the space for the
fighters not cramped, and the audience can also watch. In the battle there were two fighter
called Pepadu and three referees governing the game. One of the referees who oversee the
game is called the Central Pakembar, and the referee choosing the Pepadu called Pakembar
Sedi. The fight is usually carried out in five rounds with a duration of three minutes each
round. Before the game begins Pepadu will be given instruction and prayer that the game runs

smoothly. After that the referee will hit ende with a cane as a sign of the fight started.
Peresean in a fight, there are several regulations, including Pepadu should not hit the bottom
body such as the thighs or legs, but Pepadu allowed to hit the top of the head, shoulders or
back. Every blow of the value of each, and the winner in this Peresean usually determined
from the values obtained each round. Besides the Pepadu are declared lost when they are
surrendered or bleed. If there Pepadu injured or bleeding, the medical team will treat it with
special oils similar drug that does not cause the pain. After battling the Pepadu then shook
hands and embraced, as a sign of peace and there is no grudge between them.3
Peresean, as a game or may be categorized as a martial art that is growing and developing in
the community Sasak, West Nusa Tenggara, when examined contains values that in turn can
be used as a reference in everyday life. These values are: sanctity, health, hard work,
discipline, confidence, and sportsmanship. Sacred values reflected peresean purpose, namely
as a form of supplication to God Almighty in order to bring down rain. They believe that the
more blood was shed, the possibility of rains will be more obvious. Health value is reflected
in the movement or techniques of punches and parry is done, either while practicing or
competing. In this case, the movements in the play paresean should be done in such a way, so
that the muscles will become stronger and blood flow becomes smooth. This makes the body
strong and healthy. The value of hard work is reflected in the effort to master the techniques
in peresean. Without the hard work techniques impossible to hit and parry your opponent's
attack can be mastered perfectly. Learn the art of peresean also requires discipline, both to
themselves and to the rules or awig awig peresean imposed. Without discipline and obedience
or adherence to these rules would be difficult for someone to master this art perfectly. In
addition, learn peresean, as well as other martial games, meant to prepare for the possibility
of unwanted, both for the safety of themselves and others. By mastering peresean someone
will have the courage and be confident that no fear of disturbance or threat of other parties.4

III.

Conclusion

From there we can see how culture can influence the development of Lombok culture like
peresean. Peresean here have a lot of influence and benefits for Lombok society as described
above, with the peresean people in the region could be more appreciative of responsibility,
and can better appreciatie their culture. Because the culture is applied in the area had a lot to
give good influence for the local community and the culture may be grown and known in
various regions in Indonesia and various countries in the world.
