Design of a Water Turbine-River Trimmer for Taktak River as an

Electrical Power Source for the Utilities in Hinulugang Taktak

National Park, Antipolo City

Background of the Study

Hinulugang Taktak is a waterfall that is located at Antipolo City, Rizal.
This has been recognized by the Department of Environment and Natural
Resources. The location of the said waterfall is far from the city proper of
Antipolo, meaning, the place is still under developed that is why insufficient
electricity supply happened. Since it is under developed, it is occupied by the
informal settlers. There is no proper waste disposal system. As the years
passed by, the waste problem in the area is getting worst, resulting to dirty
environment.

Many people are asking what happened to the clear waters and clean
environment. The place is supposed to be recreational for those people who
will visit, but it ended up as an eye sore. We thought of something different
to recuperate and uphold the beauty of the place using its unexpected
wonders. As Mechanical Engineering students, we are familiar with energy
conversions. A water turbine-river trimmer will be suitable as the solution to
the problem. Since the water in the river is flowing, it will push the turbine
blades causing it to rotate. When the turbine blades are already turning, it

will produce mechanical energy as an energy source for the river trimmer for
it to function. A river trimmer will clean the entire water area.
