Memory is an active, information-processing system that receives, organizes,

stores and recovers information. Past research from Miller (Miller, 1956) presents
the theory that short term memory is a memory system with limited storage, and
has the capacity of holding 7+-2 memories. Also relating to short term memory,
the Atkinson-Shiffrin model (Richard Atkinson and Richard Shiffrin, 1968)
concludes that when the short term memory store is full, new information gets
stored by pushing out old pieces of information. This model also proposes the
theory of chunking, in which an individual groups single pieces of information
into one bigger piece. The model suggests that by grouping single pieces of
information together, the individual will be increasing the capacity of their short
term memory. The model concludes that chunking enables individuals to
remember more information at one time.
The aim of this study was to investigate the theory of whether chunking series of
numbers allows individuals to remember more numbers in their short term
memory store.
It was hypothesized that when an individual chunks a series of numbers, they will
be able to remember and recall more information than if the numbers were
presented individually.

This is a really great practice introduction. Youve covered all of the definitions
really well and youve worked within the broad-to-narrow structure that is so
important in psych introductions. The one thing I would suggest adding in your
intro would be something about why memory is an important field in psychology.
That would really round this out to a HD standard. Well done!
