While searching Gillian Rodger on the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee library

system, I was able to find a wide array of books, articles, dissertations and reviews. By
simply typing her name on the search box, I could find dozens of publications authored,
advised and reviewed by her.
Regarding books, I was able to find two books authored by Gillian Rodger and
one in which she contributed as an advisor. When it came to articles authored by her, I
was able to find over a dozen different articles, most of them are related to theater,
performing arts, gender studies and academic research. In addition to these articles,
there were several dissertations in which she contributed as an advisor and some
published reviews of other authors publications by her. Finally, there were articles
published by two different authors reviewing some of her publications, most notably, the
book Champagne Charlie and Pretty Jemima: variety theater in the nineteenth century,
reviewed by authors Marlis Sweitzer and Andrew L Erdman.
During my brief search, I was able to find a couple other authors who share the
Gillian Rodger. One of them wrote a review of the book Kirchenliedrezeption und
Rezeptionswegforschung: Zum berlieferungskritischen Verstndnis einiger Gedichte
von Brger, Goethe, Claudius by Gtz Eberhard Hbner. The second person who
shares that name seems to be in the field of biomedical research. She published an
article entitled In vitro colonization of an experimental silicone by Candida albicans,
By looking at different sets of ways of refining my search, I came to the
conclusion that the limiters that gave me the best results were music under the topic
tab and the peer reviewed journals option. In addition, even if one applies several
limiters by using the advanced search, the results do not make much of a difference,

they were still about the same items that were totally unrelated to my search as well as
those related ones who were displayed first during the first search.
Being honest, this catalog is very similar to the one in my previous institution
when it comes to settings, access and overall layout design. The only contrast that I
was able to identify was that the catalog at Florida International University seemed to
give more accurate results overall.
By searching the name of composer Philip Glass, the first results I was able to
find were comprised of interviews, audio and video material as well as books related to
his compositions. My primary interest for this search was finding music scores. By
refining my search to scores only, I was able to find exactly for what I was looking for. In
this case the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee library catalog was a very accurate and
useful to find thatspecific need.
In conclusion, for a student without a lot of experience on searching online library
catalogs, I found the catalog very accessible, I found it easy to find what I was looking
for. I felt it was a familiar and positive experience to search and find the results of each
inquiry, as well as narrowing or expanding the scope of results.
