ABSTRACT
The high number of mother and infant mortality shows the low quality of
health services. The high number of mortality, in fact, can be prevented through an
effective way such as a routine check up based on a standardized care called
Antenatal Care (ANC), Therefore, a good result can be obtained through the
examination.
The objective of this study is to identify the factors affecting the low re-visit
of mother to check their pregnancy (K4) in Puskesmas Sei Nyamuk in 2008. Based
on the study, the factors are age, education, knowledge, distance to reach the health
care center, facilities, family support and the role of medical staff. This is a
descriptive study using cross sectional design. The data are collected through
questionnaire as the primary data and list of mothers' health record as the secondary
data. Then, the data are preceded and analyzed by using statistical test and described
in the form of table and narration.
The result of the study show that the number of K4 or mothers who re-visit
the health care center increase significantly (96,4%). Based on the analysis, the
pregnancy check-up service is mostly used by the mothers who are in a high risk of
age (83,3%), in ahigh level of education (75%), in adequate level of knowledge
(56,9%), in an easy acces to health care center (60,6%), in a good facility (46,3%)
and a good role of medical staff (78,8%) and mothers with a good support from the
family (54,5%). However, based on the analysis of the statistic result, only the role
of the medical staff has a correlation with the low number of re-visit of the mothers
to check their pregnancy (K4) in Puskesmas.
Based on the result of the study, it is suggested that the role of the medical
staff need to be improved in doing their responsibility and function. Therefore, they
can give the high quality of service to the pregnant mothers.
