Essential Question: What would be the effect of introducing more advanced technology to the
general public?
Working Thesis: By introducing more advanced technology to the general public, society would
markedly benefit.
Refined Thesis: By introducing more advanced technology to the general public, innovation
would rise, along with that, the creation of prototypes for pacemakers and prosthetics would
increase demand for electronics, mechanics, and nanotechnology.

Boulton, Guy. "Interim chair named for new Biomedical Engineering Department." Milwaukee
Journal Sentinel (WI) 14 Apr. 2016: Points of View Reference Center. Web. 1 Sept.
2016.
At Marquette University and the Medical College of Wisconsin Lars Olson was
appointed interim chair for the department of biomedical engineering. As Lars will be in his
current position, the department will combine strengths from engineering and clinical programs
in order to create a strong foundation for improvement in the biomedical field. This field will
soon create devices such as pacemakers, artificial joints and even defibrillators. These
advancements will be made possible by Olson's new position. He specializes in mathematical
modeling, biomedical instrumentation, optics and cell engineering/cardiopulmonary physiology.
This article is relevant to the research because the biomedical field will thrive in the near future

"Importance of Biomedical Engineering Highlighted." Frontier Star (Pakistan) 05 Sept. 2015:

Sir Syed University Chancellor Engr Mohammad Adil Usman stated biomedical
engineering is a field in which medicine and biology coincide with engineering skills. This leads
to the improvement of healthcare, which is generally all treatments dealing with the human body.
Sir Syed University was the first university to introduce the discipline of biomedical engineering
in 1996. Up until now 1800 students have taken this into great consideration in Pakistan and
abroad. These students will have an impact towards our world today through a research-oriented
branch that is associated with 5 types of engineering: Electronics, computers, mechanical,
chemical, and nanotechnology. This article is relevant to the research because over a 10 year job
growth forecast, these students will have created the future of our world to a more holistic
approach to mankind.

Lechleiter, John C. "Life Spans And Livelihoods: The Human Dimensions Of Medical
Innovation." Vital Speeches Of The Day 76.4 (2010): 162. Points of View Reference
Center. Web. 1 Sept. 2016.
As John first states that innovation is the key to human ingenuity to improve life, people
will continue to understand its benefits to human life. Through innovation, human dimensions
have become more relevant. One of these dimensions is life spans. Humans have come a long
way to have such a life expectancy averaging around 70-80 years old. This is due to the
relevancy of humans becoming more clean and resilient to the earth's natural causes. Livelihoods
go hand and hand with life expectancy. Both of them directly correspond by how a person lives,

how they eat, and how financially stable they are. Each and every aspect of life can be related to
some type of medical science. This article is relevant to the research because for innovation to
truly be possible, humans need to open up to understand the human dimension for further success
in the biomedical field.
