Lesson Title:
During this lesson the students will develop phonological awareness through activities that
focus on beginning sounds.
Essential Questions:
Can the student understand the letter and create a word with the letters?
Can he recognize a picture or object and state the letter it begins with them pronounce
them?
ENGAGEMENT:
The student will complete is journal assignment at the beginning of our time. The journal is required
for his class so I let him finish the assignment before we begin. For todays topic the question is,
Should children be able to. I will take the previous knowledge of the alphabet and work on
beginning sounds and connecting the dots to the pictures or areas in the library and campus school.
We talk about what he has previously went over in class including the letter of the day and then we
come from that point with the lesson plan.
EXPLORATION:
At the beginning of the lesson Spenser will complete the journal entry.
I will get Spenser to use the letter tiles while using phonics and phonemic awareness.
EXPLANATION:
Spenser will use the letter tiles to locate objects in the library and use phonics to describe them. For
example, I will say what starts with a t and he will find the table. Then he will use the other letter
tiles to spell out the word table by sounding it out.
ELABORATION:
The student will use letters to create words that are located in the library or in the classroom. They
will also use or create words that they are most familiar with.
EVALUATION:
I will review the beginning with the journal topic and get Spenser to explain it to me. I will ask him
why he believes that is so. I will review the material taught, i.e. the letters recognized through
placement and get him to pronounce them again.
