What is the focus of your lesson? Recognize consonant sounds

Learning Objective/s:
(a) Identify the sounds of each consonant letters
(b) Recognize the CVC pattern in some sight words

Materials:
-flashcards
-activity cards
-activity sheets

Lesson Procedure:
The teacher would first separate the board into two sections.
And on one side put the heading "vowels" and the other side write "consonants."
The teacher would then ask each student to look at the alphabet chart and pick a letter.
If a student picks a vowel make a "ding ding ding" sound and write the vowel in the vowel section.
If a student picks a consonant make a different sound like "poump poump poump" and write it in the consonant
section.
Continue like this until all the letters of the alphabet are on the board.
While pointing at the letters ask the class what sound the consonant letters make.

Assessment:
For the assessment, the teacher would be having a cutting and pasting activity, where the student would be utilizing
materials like activity cards and picture cards. Also pasting and cutting materials like glue and scissors. In this activity,
the teacher would be:
Step 1: The teacher would be giving out activity cards to the student where these sheets contains consonant letters.
Step 2: The teacher would then give out picture cards for the student.
Step 3: The teacher would then task the student to cut out the picture from the selection and put it to the consonant
letter where it belongs in terms of its letter sound.
Step 4: The teacher would then check the student’s work and do some one on one reading with the student in terms
of how she has also correctly pasted the pictures with its associated consonant letter sound.

Task for Parents to Follow-Up at Home:


The parents could read stories to their children at home, so that the child would be able to explore more words and
what they sound like. In this way, they could also do some blending of the sounds that they have learned from a
specific set of letters which has consonant sounds or either vowel sounds. One thing, is also read them short poem so
as to enhance their skills in analyzing words that has consonant sounds or vowel sounds. Lastly, the parents could also
formulate drills that is also based on the worksheets given by the teacher. So as to practice their skill in identifying
consonant sounds and vowel sounds.
