AUST-2009
HOME WORK No. 3
DATE ASSIGNED: WEDNESDAY, JULY 15, 2009
1.
With a 10.75" (9.9" I.D) casing set at 10,000 ft, and a 9-7/8" hole drilled to 10,900 ft with 5"
(4.13" I.D) drill pipe and 900 feet of 8-5/8" x 3-1/2" drill collars in the hole. If the mud
weighs 13.6 ppg and has a plastic viscosity of 36 cp, and a yield point of 15 lb/100 ft2; using
Chukwus EXACT solution method;
What will be the swab pressure created when the pipe is pulled off bottom at 40
seconds/90 feet stand?
2.
Given the mud weight in the annulus as 12.3 ppg, the viscometer readings of O600 = 50, O300
= 28, particle diameter = 0.4 inch with specific gravity of 2.55, dh-dc-o = 4 inches for the first
500 feet from the bottom and dh-dp-o = 4.55 inches for the top 3000 feet from the surface.
The velocity in the bottom 500 feet is 167 ft/minute and 3.3 ft/second in the top 3000 feet.
What would the mud thickness (viscosity) be if it required exactly 30 minutes to transport
this particle through the drill pipe annular length? (Assume average fluid velocity is 167 ft/
minute).
