MCT Formal Lesson Observations Feedback

Student teachers name: Amina

Unit/Lesson: Animal Coverings/Living & Non-living
November 2016

Grade Level: KG2G

Date: 6

Strengths of the lesson:

Your activity (group of five students, two girls and three boys) you had some pictures
of animal coverings and asked students to look at them and guess what animal they
may belong to. You also had pictures of the animals that the students could then
match them to. Each students chose one of the animals and the corresponding
covering and were instructed to cut them out and glue them together to make their
own small book. This linked very well to the book shown to the students immediately
prior to this activity. The time required for the activity was judged well with most
students finished with time for a quick pack up. The students enjoyed sharing their
work with their classmates and the classmates enjoyed guessing the coverings.
The other class centres were also developed and prepared by you well done.
You positioned yourself in your group well, so you are able to see all of the students,
not just your own group (you wont always have other teachers or assistants in the
room!).
You remained at the students eye level throughout the activity and used positive
reinforcement and students names throughout the lesson.

Areas for development:

Thinking about coming down to the students eye-level when talking to them, i.e. when
you were introducing the centres and giving instructions. This could be simply done by
turning one of the centre chairs around and sitting on it. These were behind the
students, but it might be aa good idea to ask them to turn around away, so they can
see the centres you are talking about.
The gluing part of the activity was a little tricky. It may have been an idea to draw a
box around the animal that was the same shape as the covering picture, and draw in
an area down the side to show where the glue goes. Perhaps even guiding lines for
the name of the animal to be written on.
You did well to support the students who were sharing their work hold your audience
to high standards, i.e. make sure they are looking and listening to the speaker.
Lesson/activity plan you must send this to your MCT prior to your observation. Was it
seen (and approved) by your MST?

General Comments:
When I entered the room, you were packing away previous activities. You had the
resources ready for your activities and were able to put these out for the centre while
the teacher showed the book to the students.
The group book was put together so that it opened left to right, rather than right to
left.
You have a calm, relaxed demeanour in class, and the students respond well.
