A School Day

Hall! My name is Lykke. I

live in Sweden and I am in
year 6. I live with my little
brother Isak and my
parents.

Every morning, I ride the subway to

school with my friend Hilma. We start
school at various times so it can be hard
for parents to get us there. On Mondays
we always start at 8:00 but the other
days are different based on the teacher
and lesson plans. After school, Hilmas
mom brings us home. We normally end
school at 14:00 or 14:30.

At school, I am in mellanstadiet, or
upper primary school. I dont get to pick
any of my classes except for a language.
I chose English because I want to go to
America when I am older. Hilma is taking
another Swedish class so she can get
better. We call our teachers by their first
name. My favorite teacher is Ebba! She
teaches Swedish.

One of my favorite parts of the day is

lunch. My parents dont pay for school
and we also get lunch for free. Today we
are having meatballs and lingonberry
jam. My favorite! We are also drinking
Bramhult juice. Yum! Most students stay
at school for lunch but a few people
choose to go home for the midday meal.
Often, I spill my lunch and have to go to
the office to get a new uniform so I dont
get sent home.

After my six hours of classes, I go pick

up my little brother Isak from Frskola or
preschool. We meet Hilma and her mom
drives us home. On the days when my
brother ends at a different time, he
walks home with his friends or stays at
school until one of my parents is able to
pick him up.

Hilma and I never have homework so we

normally get time to play handball or run
around and pick flowers. The only time
we dont get to play is the week of
exams. This year is my first year of
exams and I am super scared. I have
heard they are really really hard! Isak is
so lucky that he just learns the alphabet
and plays games.

I love school in Sweden! We have all

classes with the same people which
means I get to spend a lot of time with
Hilma! I am excited for Gymnasieskola
when I am able to pick a program. I think
I want to go into architecture and
design! What is school like where you
