Assignment #1:

Prepared by: Maisam Abbas (PE.TE.38)

Effect of Skin on Well Inflow Performance:
Calculate the increase in production from a well if a workover reduces the skin factor from 3.9 to
0.4.
Data:
Oil permeability, ko = 110 md
Thickness of formation, h=50m=164 ft
Oil viscosity, o=1.3x10-3 Pas=1.3 cP (1 Pas=1000cP)
External radius, ro=480 m=1574.8 ft
Wellbore radius, rw=0.15 m=0.49 ft
Oil formation volume factor,Bo=1.2 rm3/stm3= 1.2 bbl/stb
Average reservoir pressure, pr =270 bar= 3915 psi (1 Bar=14.5psi)
Well-Flowing bottomhole pressure,pwf =190 bar=2755 psi
Assume rate independent skin and semi-steady state flow.

Solution:
We know that;

q o=

2 k o h( pr pwf )

3
o Bo(ln
+ S+ Dq)
rw 4

( )

Where Dq is known as the rate dependent skin factor. Since we are assuming rate independent skin,
therefore;
Dq=0 .
We have converted data to oilfield data, so our formula becomes:

q o=

k o h( pr pwf )

3
141.2 o Bo(ln
+ S+ Dq)
rw 4

( )

We will now perform calculations for skins ranging from 3.9 till 0.4.
