3.

Need, Scope and Objectives


3.1 Need of the Study
Non organic food is causing serious health problems like asthma, cancer, birth
disorders and arthritis. It can also be linked with the problem of obesity, weak
immune. On social front, the cost of production of non organic food is raising day by
day putting huge pressure on farmers as well as the consumers. Despite all these
serious problems, people are still using the food products and a weak inclination
towards organic food is seen. In India there are some initiatives of organic farming in
the state of Maharashtra and Karnataka. But the products are not in the notice of
people. Only a few studies have been done to find out the reasons for this cause
leaving a huge need of study on organic food and its future in India.
3.2 Scope of the Study
The scope of the study will be restricted to the selected food item categories and in the
Jalandhar region of Punjab.
3.3 Objectives of the Study
1. To find out consumer perception towards organic food.
2. To find out the reasons for buying inorganic food items and not organic.
3. To find out the factors, which on application can motivate people to buy more
organic food items.
3.4 Limitations of the study
1. Due to time constraints the numbers of respondents are less.
2. The area and food items, both are restricted, hence it will be difficult to take a
generalized prospective from this study.
3. Some respondents were not that cooperative in conducting the study may
hamper the responses.
