Before long, Barrios attracted the attention of impresario Carlos Trapani in Mon

tevideo Uruguay, and began to appear in public with a beautiful guitar from the
workshop of Jose Ramirez I, gifted to him by Trapani. It was this guitar which B
arrios used in his first recordings, and which endured an unscheduled immersion
in a river in Tranqueras Uruguay, when the car in which the guitar had been plac
ed rolled Soon after arriving in Buenos Aires, Barrios began to perform locally,
in what was a true center of guitar culture. He acquired a modern guitar, proba
bly from the Ramirez (Manuel or Jose I) or another Madrid worksBefore long, Barr
