Summary: Database Media
Better nutrition, a nutritional and food health company made an online advertisement, promoting their
social media websites. The main social media networks that they promoted were Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and
Pinterest. For each social media website, better nutrition referred to integration on that website, in terms of that
website. For example, like us on Facebook. Better nutrition mainly makes posts on tips, recipes, and contests. In
the ad promoting the social media accounts, the ad stresses that the social media accounts are to motivate
customers.
Application to Research
In connection to my research, this is a real world advertisement of social media. Better nutrition promotes
their social media accounts, because they feel social media is an effective platform for their business. If a business
like better nutrition can market through social media networks, then why not other businesses? As a researcher, I
must consider, why did they have to advertise their social media networks if social media is an effective marketing
platform, as is? This could, perhaps, show that social media platforms may be more of a liability, than an outlet. In
order to access the market of potential clients on social media, you need to promote your social media accounts in
order to develop target audience, online.

business company in Ireland, has utilized social media to its advantage, and made it a main factor in its marketing
strategy. Majority of Cosyroofs website traffic is flowing from social media websites, not to mention that it is
increasing the companys business growth. This proves that social media networks can be effective platforms for
marketing and branding.

Summary: Website blog article
It is common for new business owners to target consumers in order to generate more success into their
business. This technique does more harm than helping in marketing, however. By appealing to everyone, the
authenticity of the brand lessens; thus, the impact of the brand to the market. It is wiser to use the niche marketing
strategy because it conveys a clearer message to clients. By shrinking its market base a business can more
effectively focus on the needs of its client and possible clients. Deciding on a target audience and how to appeal to
the needs of the target audience can be a hard step for a business, however, it will increase businesses chances of
success. By Trying to Appeal to the Masses, Your Brands Message Gets Watered down to the Lowest Common
Denominator. And as a Result, Your Product or Service Doesnt Have Much Impact. Instead, Your Brand Should
Identify Your Strengths and Differentiators.
Application to research
When designing a web page for a client it is most important to pay attention to the image ,of the
business, that you are conveying. It is basic rhetoric to know who ones audience is, in order to understand what
image, of whats being marketed, needs to be conveyed. In Google Analytics, website visitors are separated into
various categories that tell web developers what different types of people appeal to web developers often advise
their clients in the process of designing their website. Web developers can use Google Analytics to help narrow
down and guide their clients toward the best target audience for their brand. Niche Marketing may be an even more
effective tool when combined with social media. Social media provides the basis for a business to cast a wider net
to its target audience.

Advertising has been a thing since the beginning of time. According to this timeline, it began, in the
United States, with the first American newspaper in 1704. After that point there were advertising conventions, and
even more advancements in advertising were being made; such as the establishment of The American Association of
Advertising Agencies. Further down the timeline, between 2000 and 2003, advertising was introduced to the
internet. In 2004, Facebook was created as a way for people to stay connected. As its user-base grew, marketers
began to take an interest in Facebook as a marketing outlet. In 2011, Facebook allowed Marketers to start targeting
consumers under 18, and in 2012 Facebook granted marketers more access to the database, in order better
understand how market to market themselves.
Application to Research
It is fundamental for the direction that I am going with my hypothesis to have a strong knowledge on the
background of advertising and social media. This article did not include information on a lot of social media
networks, however, it gave a general idea on a major one, Facebook. People often view Facebook as the social
media marketing superpower. The timeline showed that Facebook was practically the first social media network to
emphasize marketing. Not to mention, Facebook is consistent in their support of marketers, as they are constantly
making changes to assist them. This could be the reason that facebook is such a popular marketing outlet for small
businesses.

Summary: Database Media
A survey was done, online, in 2012. The survey was done to determine the percentage of online adults
that use each social media outlet. The data from the survey was collected from 2012 to 2015, with Facebook,
consistent, in the lead, all three years. Facebook yielded about 60 percent of online users in 2012, which rose to 70
percent by 2015. Instagram was behind all of its social media competitors, when the survey began in 2012, however,
its user-base has increased, whereas it now occupies 27 percent of online users , as opposed to 13 percent. Twitter
was among the popular social media networks in 2012, however, now twitter only occupies 23 percent of online
users. Twitters user-base has grown from its 15 percent of online users in 2012, however, it is consistently moving
to the bottom of the social network chain.
Application to research
Continuing to gather background information about different social media networks, this survey conveys a
general summary of the progress of social media networks, within the last decade. Facebook remains a consistent
social network superpower amongst its competitors, which shows that it may be the best place for businesses to
market themselves, because there is a larger, and growing, pool of consumers to be targeted. Twitter in comparison,
is not doing as well with improving and maintaining their user-rank. Less business owners are going to consider
twitter as a marketing outlet, because there is less of a chance that their target audience will be reached. Instagram
may be a growing marketing outlet, because its user-base is growing, consistently.

SIRS Issues Researcher. http://sks.sirs.com/webapp/article?artno=0000386097&type=ART
Summary: Scholarly Journal
Marketers are beginning to doubt the effectiveness of Digital marketing. In some cases marketers are being
overcharged for their ad. Facebook admitted that it overestimated the time online users spend viewing ads by 80
percent. Marketers are suspecting ad agencies of being in cohorts with social media networks to scam clients. Social
media offers an alternative marketing route to traditional marketing. The biggest concern is that not enough people
are viewing these ads. Therefore, the investment may not be worth it.
Application to Research
The question is: Is social media marketing effective? It is argued by many that websites like Facebook and
Twitter are the most effective ways for businesses to market themselves. The preceding article argues that this is a
myth. Data shows that Facebook has misinterpreted Ad success data. Facebook claimed that its data reports were
off because of false information collected from certain companies. This means that Facebooks misinterpretation of
data is not as reliable, as thought to be. Small businesses want the best platform to target themselves, however, social
media may not be it.

Summary: Website blog article
Some companies tend to shy away from using Facebook for their marketing campaigns. Companies argue
that Facebook does not offer revenue and seldom offers client opportunity. More and more people are joining
Facebook, which means that there is a higher chance of people that could become opportune clients. Facebook offers
various applications that allow users to interact with their clients, and possible clients, more easily. Facebook also
offers conversion tracking, which allows companies to measure how many clients facebook is contributing to a
company's success, as well as which clients are being attracted to a company through Facebook.
Application to Research
Some web developers offer social media services. Although my internship does not offer social media
marketing services to its clients, plenty of our competitors offer social media services. When using social media to
promote a company it is important to consider which outlets will contribute the most success toward a business. For
some companies, Twitter may work better with their marketing campaign, depending on the image that a company
wants to convey. Each social media outlet offers different tools for businesses; So, for other businesses, Facebook
may work better because it offers tools such as conversion tracking.
