discuss about Malayan

tigers and steps taken to conserve them.
2. Note the two questions you need to answer -

3. The question above is a discussion-type question, so the scope can be varied extensively.
4. For the discussion about the tiger, you can given any of these four components:

a) Definition (1-2m)
b) Importance (1-2m)
c) Pertaining current issues (1-2m)
d) Negative effects (if misused or lost) (1-2m)

5. For the steps taken, you can give your points

explanations.
6. Perfect answer outline:

SPM 2015 Note Special - 5 Critical Features of Virus You MUST Know
Something for you guys to revise for the Big Day.

EXAM TIPS:
1. This topic mostly come out in Paper 1 objective questions. Typical soalan Aras 1 & 2
regarding the features of virus compared to other microorganisms.
2. EXTRA: Virus doesn't conduct any biological process (respiration/ metabolism/
ingestion/digestion/ egestion/ excretion) since it is a non-living microorganism.

Teknik Menjawab Soalan Esei Jenis Aplikasi (Use of Microbes in Biotechnology)
First of all, we should realize that the Science Stream students are preparing to take higher
education such as Degree and above. Thus, the teachers should prepare them to write properly
structured answers in written form.
In
other
words,
in
this
blog,
I
am
gearing
you
up
to
write
thesis/dissertation/assignment/research journal in your future years as scholars, not just to
pass exam. Here I show you how, by using the technique I thought your seniors before - the PEE
system.

It stands for:

P-Point
E-Explain
E-Example.
We shall discuss the use of PEE system on the application-question below:

Q : Discuss the roles of microorganisms in biotechnology by

providing suitable examples (10 marks)
To start, let's use the SWEM point specifically for this type of question:

S - Sea pollution control

W - Waste treatment
E - Energy (clean)
M - Medicine & Health
Later, we write the explanation & the examples. Here is the complete answer:

I intentionally left the food processing point for you to dig it out :-)
It's up to you to write in table or essay form. We shall discuss this more near the SPM exam
soon. Go Bra-zil! :-)

Learning The Nitrogen Cycle With Ease
Today, we shall use my diagram to learn one of the most challenging topics in Bio SPM
-nitrogen cycle. Most of the books provide the outline right away without explaining
systematically according to the pedagogical theory. Here, we shall use the 'chunking' method
advocated by the Information Processing Model, which is part of education cognitivism.
Enjoy! (CLICK DIAGRAM TO ENLARGE)

1) Learn the 'big circle':

2) Learn the 'small circle':

3) Learn the processes:

4) Finally, learn the microorganisms.

Monster face= bacteria, FB= fungi & bacteria

Go to my previous post on Nitrogen Cycle for more detail.

Fieldtrip - Importance of Mangrove Swamp (Using 3+3)
Let's go to the one of popular questions in SPM -mangrove swamp thing!

Question: Discuss the importance of mangrove

swamp to the environment & human being.
As usual, we are going to use my trademark PEE system for this question. Here we go!

"The Man and the Mangrove"

The viviparous seed -see the young roots sticking out

Today's Main Points:

3 FOR ENVIRONMENT:
1. As a habitat for many animals: (1m)
-for endangered species such as salt-water crocodile & migratory birds. (1m)

2. As a barrier between the sea and land: (1m)

-prevent soil erosion due to wave & wind. (1m)
-prevent soil sediment from entering sea. (1m)
-prevent saltwater from entering river. (1m)

3. As a breeding ground for animals: (1m)

-fishes, crabs & prawns can live because of shallowness, warm water, & slow current. (1m)

3 FOR HUMAN:
1. As valuable resources: (1m)
-plants as timbers (kayu-kayan) and medicines. (1m)
-fishes as food sources. (1m)

2. As site for scientific research: (1m)

-study ecosystem of mangrove swamp and its connection to world as a whole. (1m)
-study of unique species such as the path of migratory birds. (1m)

3. As site for ecotourism: (1m)

-provide aesthetic value that mangrove swamp is our heritage & must be preserved. (1m)
-for many activities such as boating , snorkeling, bird watching, fishing. (1m)
-examples are the Kuala Selangor Nature Park & Matang Mangrove Forest Reserve. (1m)

Ways to memorize:
1. Group the main points (chunking) and extract the first alphabets:

2. Create a simple yet memorable sentence:

HBB ERR --> "Habeb err...?" --> "Ha, Bieber!"

(ask your teacher to sing/dance/act queer to make it memorable)
Congratulations for mastering this crucial subtopic! Wish you the best of Bio blast for next year's
study endeavor :-)

BIOLOGY 2013 FORECAST SERIES 9 - Using TEP Formula for Colonization
& Succession
Colonization, an interesting topic we learnt in Dynamic

Ecosystem. Here we shall

discuss the technique of using TEP to answer the question below:

Q: Discuss the colonization and succession process occur in

a pond.
TEP is defined below:

We already know that the colonization & succession series in a porn pond can be divided into 3

categories. These categories are translated into 3 paragraphs in our answer

sheet, as described below:

Para. 1: PIONEER SPECIES

Para. 2: THE SUCCESSOR SPECIES
Para. 3: COMMUNITY CLIMAX
By using the TEP technique, your answer would be perfect, just like below:
______________________________________

PIONEER SPECIES

First, the pioneer species (TERM) such as the submerged plants like
Hydrilla (EXAMPLE) is first to inhabit the pond.

They are also the first to colonize the pond. (PROCESS 1)

Their dead substances would make the pond shallower. (PROCESS 2)

This would make the pond not suitable for them. (PROCESS 3)

*Use the same TEP in the following paragraphs...

THE SUCCESSOR SPECIES

Later, they are succeeded by the successor species such as the floating plants like water
lily.

Their dead substances also would make the pond shallower.

This would make the pond not suitable for them.

They are replaces by another successor species such as the emergent plants like
common reed (lalang air).

Again, their dead substances would make the pond shallower and completely covered
with sediment.

Again, this would make the pond not suitable for them.

THE COMMUNITY CLIMAX.

New terrestrial plants such as the shrubs will grow the sediment.

Eventually, the forest will be formed and climax community is reached.

REMINDER

-remember that short & concise sentences are sought by the

examiners, so our job is to give them what they want for our
own sake (full marks).
-so your sentence should be KISS (keep it short and simple).
If you having trouble in remembering the points, just use the TEP as your guidance to answer
this type of question.
For this year, it is highly anticipated that the topic regarding

colonisation &

succession in mangrove swamp might be on the paper. Now, get busy

constructing your answer using TEP. If you have time, send to me personally so I can check
them.
