ABSTRACT :
Gas-solid fluidized beds are widely used in industrial
such as catalytic polymerization, solar receivers, biomass gasification, and petroleum refineries (fluidized
catalytic crackers) among many others. Electrostatic
forces in this process can have a strong influence (particle agglomeration, reactor wall fouling, defluidization,
electrostatic discharge and explosions) which induces
process efficiency and security issues. These forces are
not well understood and generally neglected in Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) modeling of gas-solid
fluidized beds.
This thesis consists of developing mathematical models
to account for the electrostatic effects and short-range
interactions in heterogeneous media and implement it
in CFD modeling (NEPTUNE_CFD). These models will be
modified/improved on the basis of experimental results
which wil be performed in a pilot at the laboratory scal
with the same geometry used in numerical simulation.
