Joseph Kelly

Joe joined Scouts in first grade as Tiger Cub. He was 6 years old. Not quite
ten years later, right after his 16th birthday, he became an Eagle Scout.
For Joes Eagle project he designed and built a shed for the District 113A
community garden. It is located behind River Valley/Oakwood. The garden
is used as a learning garden and in the summer it provides fresh vegetables
and herbs for the Lemont Food Pantry.
Joe is a NHS member at Lemont High School and he is also on the bowling
team and the lacrosse team.
Joe enjoys volunteering at the Haunted Caboose for the scouts. The
Caboose runs in conjunction with The Village of Lemonts Halloween
Hoedown. He has also put hundreds of hours into Haunted Central which is
run by the District 113a Foundation and Hope and Friendship. This last year
you could find him wielding a chainsaw at the exit. Many guests screamed
when they SAW him.

Frank Gomulka

Franks Scouting life started out as a Tiger Scout with Lemont Pack Cub
Scout Pack 149 back when he was in the first grade. Frank experienced
much in Scouting since then; many outings, camp outs, high adventure,
community service events, etc. However, the most important thing Frank
feels he will take away from his time as a scout is the personal growth
and confidence he has with himself. Frank has always felt that his
experiences in the BSA have always made him better at what he did
outside of scouting, whether it was with athletics, music, family and
friends.
Frank is currently a junior at Benet Academy in Lisle, IL. Frank is
passionately involved with his schools Choral and Madrigal groups as
well as his High School and Community Musical Theater productions.
Frank would like to thank all the adult leaders who helped him
on his path to Eagle Scout. He would especially like to thank
his Mom, Dad and sister Emily for their support.

Mike joined Cub Scout Pack 4728 in Hickory Hills as a Tiger Scout
when he was in first grade. After moving to Lemont, he continued
as a Cub Scout in Pack 249. As a Cub Scout, he enjoyed such
activities as Trunk or Treat, the Pinewood Derbies and the Rain
Gutter Regatta. He also earned his Arrow of Light. As a Boy Scout
in Troop 49, his best memory is the Live-Aboard Scuba trip at
Florida Sea Base. Mike participated in community projects,
camped and enjoyed the comradery he developed. He feels the
leadership and citizenship skills he developed as a Boy Scout will
help him in the future.
Mike is currently a senior at Lemont High School and plays
lacrosse. He will continue his lacrosse career at Columbia College
in Missouri in the fall while studying biology as he pursues his
dream to be a doctor in the future.
Mike would like to thank everyone for their support and help to
achieve the rank of Eagle Scout, especially his mentor, Mr. Tom
Schatz, and his Mom, Dad, sister, Alex, Mr. John Paulius and Mr.
Jamie Glista.

Spencer Bailey

I first became a Scout when I was in second grade; a family

we knew from school had asked if I wanted to join Cub
Scouts. After thinking about it for a day or so, I decided to
do it. Little did I know that that decision would have an
immeasurable impact on my life and the person that I am
today. At the first meeting that I attended, I liked what I
saw and decided to continue. And continue I did,
enjoying every second all the way to crossing over into
Boy Scouts in fifth grade
This marked a major turning point in my life. During my
time as a Boy Scout, I learned countless things about what
it means to be a leader and a person. I learned to
persevere in the face of adversity, and that I could have
quite a bit of fun while doing so. Especially during my later
years, when I had to balance my path to Eagle with new
commitments in other parts of my life, I learned how to set
goals and achieve them. I credit all of this and much more
to the Boy Scouts of America, and for that I remain
profoundly grateful.

Harrison began his career in Scouting at the age of 6. As a Cub Scout in Pack 149 he enjoyed learning to
build Pinewood Derby cars, rubber band rockets, and got a thirst for adventure.
His summer days at Camp Shin-Go-Beek, Camp Mach-Kin-O-Siew, and Owasippe Scout Reservation helped
develop the leadership and outdoor skills that proved to be very valuable as a crew member on high
adventure trips to Philmont Scout Ranch and Florida Sea Base. Through his dedication to the Scout Oath
and living the Scout Law Harrison learned many lessons, skills, values, moral, and ethics on his path to the
rank of Eagle Scout. These are the attributes you see in this young man today. None of this could have been
achieved without the dedicated guidance, leadership and support of the Troop 49 Scout Masters, Assistant
Scout Masters, and Committee members.
For his Eagle Project Harrison worked with District 113A teacher Sonya Raymond to design and build eight
raised garden planting beds for use in the science and nature curriculum at Oakwood River Valley
Schools. The effort was a success and is the foundation built upon by several additional Eagle projects to
create a great educational asset for our community. The project was a culmination of the scouting
experience utilizing many of the skills and qualities acquired along the journey. It is a source of great
accomplishment, confidence, pride, and joy for Harrison.
Harrison is currently a Senior at Lemont High School focused on science, engineering and design. He is
currently active in lacrosse and scuba diving with plans for higher levels of scuba certification.
In the fall of 2017 Harrison will be attending Iowa State School of Engineering and Technology to Study
Industrial Engineering because he simply loves to design and build new things. This love began when he
built his first Pinewood Derby car as a Tiger Cub.

The Boy Scouts of America is such an important part of my life and was vital in shaping who I am and my
values. There were so many aspects of my scouting experience that over time combined to create a single
experience. Scouting taught me self-reliance, responsibility and the value of achievement and
accomplishment. The camping trips taught the importance of self-reliance, provided confidence that I can
accomplish things and the importance of team work. The many projects and badges provided me with
problem solving abilities, and made me realize that when faced with an obstacle in life I can step back and
find a solution rather than panicking and giving up. It also gave me an opportunity to see how important
community is, and how important it is to be part of a community. This helped me work and contribute to
other organizations throughout high school and now college. The merit badges that I worked for gave me
experience in fields that I would have never had without Scouting. But most importantly I met fantastic
people who were living examples of achievement and provided a model of what a friend, citizen and
community member should be. Scouting helped me create and strengthen friendships that I hold to this
day with fellow scouts. All of these lessons and experiences blended together to create the person I am
today. If asked if I could do it all over again I would say absolutely.

Nicholas Yanku

Nick has been in Scouting since he was in the first grade, starting out
in Cub Scouts in Troop 249, but spending most of his time in Troop
149 in the den led by Tina Rigler and Tom Schatz. In Boy Scouts
Troop 49 under the guidance of scoutmasters Pat Troy and Mark
Huegelmann he has been able to experience a lot of different things
while obtaining 30 merit badges, going to scout camp several times,
and helping out in the community on a variety of scouting activities.
Colleen Leahy gave Nick the confidence to pursue the rank of Eagle
Scout and introduced him to the position of Den Chief in which he
has participated for three years. This helped him develop his
leadership skills.
His involvement with Scouts also helped him to discover his passion
for helping people through involvement in many charitable activities
including the Hope and Friendship Foundation. It has helped mold
Nick into who he is today. Although Nick will be entering college as
undecided, his experiences in Scouting helped him determine that
he would like to pursue a career in which he could help others.
Scouting, along with his upbringing and education, has provided
Nick with a solid foundation to grow.

Scouting has made a great impact on my life and the skills I have learned will continue with me for the
rest of my life. My Scouting journey began when I joined Cub Scouts and continued on to Boy Scouts
right after. Being in Scouting opened many new opportunities such as having the chance to attend all
three high adventure camps and able to attend summer camp during my summers.
Scouting has taught me many life skills that will continue with me for the rest of my life. Throughout my
life and growing up I was always told what great honor it was to become an Eagle Scout and I knew
from the beginning that it was something that I needed to work towards. Becoming an Eagle Scout is
something that will follow me for the rest of my life and I am proud to have had to the opportunity to
work towards and receive this honor.

Christopher Paulius

Christopher is a Senior at Lemont High School and is in the process of applying to a

variety of colleges, but nothing decided yet. He wants to get a degree in
Business/Finance or Industrial Engineering. He really likes Math.
When he was younger he was involved in and enjoyed a lot of different sports, like
basketball, football and baseball. Even though he is athletic, he also suffered quite some
injuries, even once at a Scouting outing - many broken bones, sprains and several
surgeries. This was part of the reason he decided to concentrate less on sports and more
on academics and is now involved in many extracurricular clubs in and outside of school.
He still exercises at the gym and plays tennis. And since then, knock on wood - we did
not have any trips to the ER.
Christopher has a lot of great memories as a Cub Scout and a Boy Scout, like going to the
Eagle Cave, skiing, camping and a special highlight was the deep sea fishing trip to Sea
Base in Florida. He started as a Tiger Cub in First grade with Pack 349 and when the pack
was deactivated he went to Pack 249.

he wants to achieve in life and enjoys working towards it. He has a passion for
Trading and Business. He is involved in a lot of extracurricular clubs and puts
a lot of energy into them. Whatever he does, either for his classes or his clubs,
he gives it his all. He is one of the few people who do not procrastinate, but
plan their workload efficiently and he does not wait until the last minute. He is
very ambitious, does not want to miss school, likes to read and likes to use
opportunities to keep improving. He also has a good sense of humor.
Alexander has a lot of great memories as a Cub Scout and a Boy Scout, like

Ryan Lambe
Ryan has been involved in community service since he was in 1st grade from helping his mom with
Feed My Starving Children and beginning his wondrous journey in Cub Scouts as a Tiger Cub.
Propelling through the ranks, Ryan decided to join Boy Scouts Troop #49 and decided to aim high,
surpass all requirements and merit badges, and achieve the rank of Eagle Scout.
Ryan has always been involved in sports and thought to incorporate these passions into his Eagle
Scout Project. His project was to coordinate the painting of the Lemont High School (LHS) baseball
and softball dugouts. With three days of hard work and help from all of his volunteers, he was able to
complete the project and see the results of the newly renovated dugouts. He received many
compliments not only on the dugouts but also on his work ethic from the directors, teachers and
students, and also the residents of Lemont. He was headlined in the towns local newspaper showing
his project, and even received a letter from Illinois Governor, Pat Quinn, who wrote saying he was
pleased with the work.
His accomplishments truly marked the transition from his joys of sports and service through Scouts to
the leadership and dedication he demonstrated as a young adult in serving his community and
achieving academic goals. During his high school days, Ryan was active in many organizations in LHS
such as: Football, Basketball, Volleyball, Science Club, Honors Jazz Band, Pep Band, Marching Band,
Honors Symphonic Band, The National Honor Society, and The National Honor Society of High School
Scholars, while holding leadership positions as being captain of his JV Volleyball team his sophomore
year and earning 1st chair in Honor Jazz Band his senior year. With the help of being active in multiple
organizations, leading in leadership positions, and learning useful skills from his Eagle Scout Project,
he has proved to have the necessary qualifications to succeed in college and in the future.
Ryan is attending Bradley University to major in Health Science to pursue a doctorate in Physical
Therapy, while minoring in Spanish. He has kept himself busy with, also, being active in a multitude of
organizations that have shaped his dedication, determination, desire, and character. He is, currently, a
member in the National Honor Society of Leadership and Success and the Health Science
Organization. He is 3rd chair in Symphonic Winds and 1st Trumpet in Pep Band, while also being the
Scholarship Chairman in his Fraternity, Pi Kappa Phi.

Recipe for an Eagle Scout

Place a young boy,
Bright and shining with Gods grace,
Into a free and hopeful nation.
Add a large helping of mothers love,
And a touch of fathers, too.
A full measure of Scoutmasters patience and Generosity,
Kindness and care from Assistant Scoutmasters
Camaraderie and friendship from a number of boys,
And support and help from their parents;
Plenty of assistance and encouragement
From family, friends, and community.
A kind word in a moment of doubt,
A gentle reprimand in a moment of weakness,
A helping hand, a guiding thought,
Understanding and forbearance, in full measure.
Immerse for years In a Scouting atmosphere,
Warming thoroughly with
Good examples on every side.
When done,
Decorate with badges,
And serve to the world.
Troop 49 would like to thank all the leaders, families and Scouts who helped these Scouts achieve their goals.
We are confident that each and every one of them has a bright future.
We are grateful to the members of our community who came together today to help us celebrate their accomplishment!
