Optometry Research Articles
Objective:
The objective was to inform future health care professionals about how Optometry is
becoming more insurance based and medicinal and what we can do to change this.
Description of Process:
First I began to research the different aspects of Optometry that must be assessed. I first
researched the basic Anatomy and Physiology of the eye, what Optometrist do, how
Optometrists were different than Opthamologist, then talked about how Optometrist are different
throughout the world. I planned a slideshow that would showcase this and I kept researching
different articles that would have the sides of Optometry that I felt needed to discuss with future
health care professionals. I checked availability in an Anatomy and Physiology class, the
students that are thinking about becoming professionals in the healthcare field. I made the speech
with as much research that was available and then on the very last day of preparing my research,
I worked on revising and editing and giving the speech as accurately I could.

Utilization of Higher-Level Thinking Skills:

I utilized analyzation skills when it came to analyzing the optometry research articles that
I was able to read about and evaluate as to what would be important when giving a speech. It was
important to build upon the research and to make sure that the research I discussed about was
able to comprehend so I made sure that I simplified a basic introduction to make sure that the
audience was able to comprehend my research points in the research presented. I also used
logical reasoning skills by making sure that the logic of my presentation was clear, and accurate.
It is important that the audience was able to understand my logic as to what I was presenting and
making sure that my message was being effective as to when these future health care
professionals are choosing what career to pursue, they can be well informed as to what
Optometry has to offer.

Results:

Results showed that the students I gave this

presentation to learned something about Optometry and what it can offer them. I think that this
showed how my research helps them understand how Optometry needs to be different from the
medical standpoint and to practice the more alternative approaches that are taught in optometry
school.
Conclusions/Interpretations:
I can interpret this data as to the research performed has definitely affected the future
health care professionals and will give the insight that I ultimately wanted to see happen about
what Optometry is and how Optometry needs to move away from being so insurance based and
more application based from the skills learned from optometry school.
Application/Meaning:
The application and the overall meaning of this original work was to show how
Optometry is changing and how I could accurately inform students that are wanting to go into the
medical field as to what Optometry is and how it offers so much to those that work in the field. I
think that by showing students what optometry is can provide insight into a career they never
really knew about, as the medical field is so broad and I hoped that by showing my passion about
Optometry to this group could inspire a few to really think about going into the field as well.
