Questions:

1. Discuss the recent trends in nursing research. What ideas have you come up with as a
possible research Title?
● In nursing research, various up-to-date trends are brought along with its advancement or
further development. The first one is the enactment of the Philippine Nursing Law of 2002
(RA 9173). Based on this act, nurses are necessary to have a graduate degree in order for
them to be eligible for positions in nursing service or education in line with the regulation
of the nursing profession. Likewise, it is stated that the goal of this act is to give protection
and help in the development of the nursing profession leading to the improvement of the
competencies and capabilities of Filipino Nurses resulting in better care in the country. We
also have the creation of special research departments in a growing number of institutions.
It is mainly because the findings from the research that people in this department will be
undertaking will help look for the potential solutions to the problems that we are currently
or might face in the future. Another one is giving greater emphasis on research in
undergraduate programs with six units in the new BSN curriculum. Moving on, we also
have a significant increase in the number of research publications, which also serve as the
basis for the promotion of nurses working in the academic field. I believe that it is to
ensure that students will be able to acquire sufficient knowledge that will enable them to
conduct effective and quality research as well as disseminate the findings of the study that
will be beneficial for society, especially in the healthcare field and in the further studies
that future researchers will be doing. Other trends include the importance or necessity of
research findings in hospitals and educational institutions, increased utilization of effective
strategies in research development in nursing, continuous capacity building of registered
nurses both in nursing practice and education, provision of sufficient and protected time
for nurses to do research, as well as giving of financial supports such as grants and
scholarships by government and non-government organizations for research. Based on
that, I think doing that will allow not only for the research department to flourish but also
the nursing field. Nurses will now be able to make use of those findings from the research
by applying them to their practice in order to improve their capacities as healthcare
providers resulting in a better quality of care. Overall, we can see the process of
development of nursing research as time goes by, which I think will continue to further
improve through the years as long as it is well-supported and properly done. Moving on,
with regards to ideas for possible research titles, I am leaning towards the experiences that
nurses have, as well as their perspective in their profession and other aspects of nursing
such as health teaching and more. However, I believe that I should consider some factors
such as the accessibility to sources of information, relevancy and level of difficulty of the
study, the amount of time that I will be spending in doing the research, and more.
2. What are the future directions of nursing research? How will this impact your research
paper?
● Based on what I have researched, the future directions of nursing research include giving
more continued focus on EBP or evidence-based practice, stronger evidence through
confirmatory strategies, continued emphasis on systematic reviews, expanded local
research in health care settings, expanded dissemination of research findings, increased
focus on cultural issues and health disparities, and also emphasis on its clinical
significance and patient input. I think that these future directions will have a great and
good impact on the research paper that I will be doing along with my future
co-researchers. The main reason is that they will serve as a guide for me towards the path
of conducting beneficial nursing research that can give useful findings that may be
relatively disseminated in order to be used as evidence to further improve or develop
practices in nursing. Likewise, these future directions of nursing research will also help me
to make a research paper that will be clinically significant and aid in the advancement of
patient outcomes while also considering patient preferences and priorities. Doing that will
allow not only me but also other healthcare providers to enhance the quality of care and
other aspects of the healthcare setting that will be adequately given to the patients.
Furthermore, the future directions of nursing research will also enable me to take actions
that are highly ethical by considering as well the cultural issues and health disparities that
the research may come across.

3. Discuss how you can practice ethical research so that during the Study, the participants shall
receive fair and equitable treatment before, during, and after the research period.
● From my perspective, I believe that the researchers should do a proper or appropriate
inclusion and selection of the participants of the study that they are doing. It includes the
factors, aspects, or characteristics such as sex, race, ethnicity, and more except for certain
reasons that the research might be focusing on particular attributes, which may be highly
relevant or related to the research. In this case, they must prevent themselves from doing
any discriminatory actions against individuals whom they will be asking to participate in
the research. Hence, participants should most likely be given fair chances to take part in
the study. Likewise, it is also a must to ensure that the participants and the researchers
comply with the agreements of both parties regarding the methods, actions, or procedures
of the study. Doing that will help prevent any impartial events from happening before,
during, and after the research period. Moreover, to ensure equal distribution of benefits of
research, it is best for the researchers to explain to people the background of the study that
they will be doing including its scope, nature, as well as potential benefits that they will be
receiving during and after the research before they participate in it. Also, considering their
participation during the conduction of research, it is best to know as researchers that they
have to give what is due to the participants, especially the benefits that the respondents are
entitled to have after taking part in the study. In addition to that, benefits should not only
be said to the participants but also the potential risks that may occur. It is to give each of
them a fair chance to decide on whether to participate or not.
4. During research, discuss the pointers on which you shall be able to practice Respect for
Human Dignity (Right to self-determination Right to full disclosure, Anonymity
Confidentiality, Privacy).
● In my opinion, as a student and as a researcher, I think that the pointers to be able for
oneself to practice respect for human dignity is to recognize that every individual has the
capability to make their own decision and has the right to every piece of information or
everything that involves or concerning oneself. Basically, the dignity of a person will be
held in value by the researchers if they will respect the person as a capable individual.
They can do this through proper and adequate dissemination of information about the
research. Doing that will allow the participants of the study to determine and make a
choice whether to give consent to take part in it or not. Furthermore, if they become the
respondents of the research, everything that they have provided to the researchers must
stay with the researchers themselves and will not come out or be passed on to other
people. Thus, doing that will help protect the privacy and confidentiality of the
participants. However, it is also advisable during the conduction of the research to
acknowledge that some people do not want to identify themselves while partaking in the
study. Based on that, they should ask the participants first if they want to give any
identifiers or not.

5. What does it mean by the fundamental ethical principles in research: Beneficence and
maleficence? Discuss your answer.
● Based on our previous and current lesson about ethical principles, beneficence and
maleficence focuses on the idea of only promoting what is good for people and avoiding
doing any harm to them, which is highly encouraged to be applied in the nursing practice.
Likewise, it is also used in the research field as individuals are frequently used as the
subjects or participants of the study. In conducting a certain research or study, researchers
should be able to ensure the safety and protection of the participants from any kind of
harm including those that may threaten or endanger their lives while participating in the
research. Moreover, based on that, it is best that the researchers take into consideration the
possible risks, harm, or any bad effects to people who will be taking part in it. If there are
any of those present in the study, it is best to find solutions or ways to minimize or
diminish them from the research.

6. Come up with at least three possible research titles. Remember to choose topics that are
evidence-based practice in nursing. Kindly avoid topics related to politics and academics.
● A Quantitative Study on the Perspective of Nursing Students on the Level/Degree of
Impact of Social Media on the Mental Health of Students
● A Study on the Nursing Students’ Perception of the Impact of Online Games on the
Dietary Habits/Patterns of Students
● Student Nurses’ Perspective on the Significance of Telehealth in the Advancement of
