Artifact Title: Math Timed Tests with Data
Teaching Standard:

Demonstrates competence in content knowledge appropriate to the teaching position.

Standard Criteria:

Understands and uses instructional strategies that are appropriate to the content area.
I choose this artifact to show:
_____ Growth in the standard
__X___ Strength and competency in the standard

Description of the artifact and how it meets the standard and criteria:
To align with our math content, I test my students on their basic facts with these tests. I
attached only the multiplication, but I complete this with addition, subtraction, and
division as well. I think that this strategy is important and appropriate to our content
because by the end of 4th grade, all students need to have 60 facts in each addition,
subtraction, multiplication and division mastered in three minutes. We are required to
complete these tests for beginning, middle and end of year testing, but in our
classroom, I like to give at least 2-3 additional tests in between these periods because it
can give me data that I can use to supplement my instruction and my interventions.
Reflection on the artifact:
I am very happy with these tests. I feel that it shows me quickly what I need to be
focusing on in my daily instruction in relation to basic fact practice. It also can show me,
and the students that growth that has occurred, which is very beneficial to see. From the
beginning of the year to the middle of the year, 23 students made significant growth in
their multiplication facts. This shows me that the students are successfully mastering
their facts. It can also show me who is needing additional help from me. Using these
data points, and others as well, I was able to get a student help through starting the
SST process. Lastly, these tests and the data from them are important because I can
see who needs enrichment in their facts, and start the process of giving them enriching
activities.
