Description of the artifact and how it meets the standard and criteria:

We are in the 5th year of our Journeys curriculum and have made changes to the way
we align the standards to the assessments we give the students. We decided as a team
to create the tests solely on the skill or strategy that we are focusing on in the story. We
created these in our professional development time together. I have also attached the
analysis that we do weekly on our own classrooms. This analysis allows me to see what
students have mastered the skill and who is in need of a re-teach.

Reflection on the artifact:

I am very pleased with what we are doing with our new assessments. I like that we have
aligned the assessments to the power standards that we are working towards in 4th
grade.

One aspect that we did not like as a team in the vocabulary tests was that five of the ten
vocabulary words of the week were on the test, with the other five questions being
related to the vocabulary strategy. We saw importance in both sections of the
assessment, and we changed so that each section has its own rubric because each
section aligns with a power standard that we have in 4th grade.
Another change to our comprehension test is focusing on only the comprehension
strategy that we are assessing. In this artifact, it is inferring. The questions that only
relate to inferring are pulled from the original Journeys assessment. We also included
an unknown passage with questions related to the comprehension strategy. We did this
because we wanted to see if the students can apply their new knowledge about this
strategy to an unknown passage.
