Teaching Standard: 5
Standard Criteria: A
Description of the artifact and how it meets the standard and criteria:
This artifact shows Lesson 14 Dictation sentences and the rubric that we send home to
parents. This week, we learned the phonics skill long e ending as a y. Our rubric goes
along with the sentences and how the student would score each section. This artifacts
show that I am able to align my assessments with the instruction that I teach in class,
and I am able to monitor their learning each week.
I am very glad that we are moving towards dictation instead of memorizing spelling
words this year. I believe that teaching phonics skills is much more beneficial to their
learning instead of rote memorization. I think it will lend itself well to their writing as well.
We also spiral our previous phonics skills into our dictation sentences too, which allows
us to see where there are still gaps or additional instruction in needed. I think will give
us a great amount of data and will allow us to change our instruction if necessary.
