Objective 5: Use assessments in the context of classroom curricula

and teaching
Throughout the semester, we have clearly learned about the
importance of assessments and how they can help not only the children we
work with, but ourselves as professionals. Assessments can help us shape
our classroom curriculum and inform the way we teach. This can be done
through formative assessments.
I was able to learn a lot about using assessment in the context of
curriculum and teaching through the teacher interviews my learning group
conducted. The professionals explained that assessments inform them about
what is going well in the curriculum and what areas should be more focused
on. Over time, the changes implemented because of these assessments
allow child development programs to grow stronger. I was also able to learn
about various kinds of assessments and how they appear in the context of
the classroom. During each lab assignment, we focused on a variety of both
formal and informal assessments. Observing the Child Development Lab, we
conducted these assessments as if they were children in our classroom.
Overall, having to opportunity to utilize these assessments gave me a better
feel for how I will be using them when I have a classroom and students of my
own.
I believe that I met this objective. I feel confident in using assessments
in the context of classroom curricula, and I believe periodically conducting
formative assessments will help me inform my own teaching practices.
