Learning Episode 1
I have learned that the result of the assessment of learning affected
by the observance or implementation of the assessment for
learning because these two are interconnected. Students are
letting to recalled back their previous learning, as the
assessment as learning takes to ensure that learning must be
self-reflected and assessment of learning evaluates the overall
learning of how well the students have acquired the learning.
Learning Episode 1
Based on my observation, assessment as learning is not oftentimes
practiced by the teacher in giving assessment. Unlike
assessment FOR and OF learning which always comprise the
assessment scheme of the teacher, are the kinds of assessment
always used in the classroom. But assessment as learning bring
about wider perspective for students to be aware of how they’re
performing well and getting progress.

For the assessment process to accomplish its purpose such as
ensure learning, we must be guided by basic principles. Based
on my observation, the most common assessment principles
often practiced to an observed teacher are making varied tools
for assessment data gathering, and using multiple sources of
assessment data. The teacher doesn’t only rely to single sources
of data, teacher uses a variety of sources for assessment.

As what I’ve learned, for me the least principles that were being
practice by a teacher were demonstrating the real-world
application of the knowledge acquired by the students. The
application of theories into practice were seldom used, which
on the other hand plays a quite vital role for making the
students learning last.

Based on my observations, that most common traditional
assessment tools that were used were the multiple choice,
alternative response and matching type. These traditional
assessment methods often observed in my resource teacher.

The products and or performances that were assessed based on my
observation from the class and from the resource teacher were
the projects and role playing.

I’ve learned that the assessment task and learning outcomes must
be match in order to bring success in students learning
experiences. If any of unmatched, it would entail a lot of waste
on the part of teacher such as time, expertise and efforts.

I have learned that content validity which refers to the
appropriateness, correctness, meaningfulness and usefulness of
the specific conclusions that a teacher reaches regarding the
teaching-learning process is very necessary. Without the
observance of content validity in the assessment task, it would
just like measuring difference at different.

Therefore in order to successfully grab the meaningfulness of the
assessment, we must have to logically include all items we tend
to measure, and by that every items must reflect the degree of
emphasis received during the instruction.

I’ve learned that portfolios do not make the learning process
inconvenient because the role of portfolio is to reinforce further
the learning of the students if the assessment process
undergone. Portfolio also improves the learning of the students
aside from theories, with which they could be able to apply
what they have learned from the former.

Yes, I believe that development or growth portfolios can be an
assessment portfolios because it measures how well the
students undergo progress towards a certain period.
Development portfolios further assesses the development of
learning experiences and personal understanding. It helps
teacher to determine what are the necessary strategies needed
to employ in the diverse learners.

I’ve learned that rubrics help students to become self-directed or
independent learners because they are informed to what are the
needed things to further improve their performance and
develop their own selves against the given standards. I believe
that the use of rubrics do contribute to the assessment as
learning because it guides learners to what to do for
improvements and develop self-assessment.

I believe that the era where the emphasis is on self-directed
learning, demonstration of knowledge, skills and values
learned do really matter because learners are trained to be
equipped for the application of learning in the outside world.
They are forge to be able to proficiently do the task outside and
make their learning in school last.

As a future teacher, I will prevent the source of misunderstanding
between me and my respondents (parents) by treating them
first professionally and carefully, I will be transparent to them
by showing all records of the students performances and
progress at a given period. I will also call the attention of the
concerned student in order to clearly explain how such grading
happened, with which we are observing the proper conduct and
showing the reliability to both parties.
