DESCRIPTION:
After critically-acclaimed runs in New York and Washington D.C., Noli Me
Tangere: The Opera, based on Dr. Jose Rizals immortal novel of the same
name, return to its original home, the CCP stage, for a limited run.
Noli Me Tangere is an adoring story about love, betrayal, oppression,
vengeance, set against a repulsive political backdrop of tyranny, torture and
murder. It depicts the abuses suffered by the native Indios at the hands of
Spanish tyrants. The Noli paints us a clear picture of the so-called social
cancer that illustrates the rotten system of governance, the illicit ways of
the church and the unfavorable trade of the privilege class.
Noli Me Tangere, the Opera is billed as the first Filipino full length opera with
orchestration composed in the Western Operatic tradition overflowing with
passages reminiscent of Mozart, Rossini, Puccini and Wagner and sung in
Tagalog.
The classic story that makes it way to the stage in opera form showcases
Filipino ingenuity. Featuring original music and libretto by National Artists
Felipe de Leon and Guillermo Tolentino, respectively, the opera marks the
directorial debut of Jerry Sibal, whose designed scenery and costumes are
also featured in the production.
Rediscover our Filipino heritage as this operatic rendition celebrates its 60th
anniversary by breathing new life into our national heros masterpiece!
REVIEWS:
Bravo to all involved in Noli Me Tangere. Ka Pepe would have been proud.
The performance was accessible. It did not drag. The video projections

heightened experience. Folks, catch it. This is not boring opera. Highly
recommended. They even have a translation into English subtitles over the
stage. Amazing, and a total special shout out to Sisa. She killed it.
