LESSON PLAN

I. Objectives

At the end of the lesson, students are expected to:


a. Define the meaning of reading.
b. Give the importance of reading.

II. Subject Matter

Topic: What is reading and its importance?

Reference: Google .com, Wikipedia.com.


Materials: Visual Aid, Marker, glue and phocopy

III. Procedures

A. Preliminary activity

B. Motivation

The teacher divides the class into 2 groups. And they are told to
read the tongue twister. The group who read the tongue twister
simultaneously will declare a winner.
C. Activity (Wikarambulan)

The teacher shows a bottle. Inside the bottle are titles of movie
that was written in small pieces of paper and was written in a
jejemon style. While singing the song love yourself the
students pass the bottle side to side. Whenever the teacher says
stop, the one who hold the bottle at that moment will pick one
piece of paper inside the bottle and read it to the class.

D. Analysis
The teacher asks the following question to the students:

1. What did we do in our activity?


2. What have you observe in our activity?
3. What do you think our topic today?

E. Abstraction/Discussion

What Is Reading?

Reading is a means of language acquisition, communication, and of


sharing information and ideas. A multifaceted process involving word
recognition, comprehension, fluency, and motivation

Reading is making meaning from print. It requires that we:


Identify the words in print a process called word recognition

Construct an understanding from them a process called


comprehension
Coordinate identifying words and making meaning so that reading is
automatic and accurate an achievement called fluency

To develop word recognition, learner needs to learn:

phonemic awareness

alphabetic principle

decoding

word study

sight vocabulary

Background knowledge.

To develop fluency, learner need to:

Develop a high level of accuracy in word recognition

Maintain a rate of reading brisk enough to facilitate comprehension

Use phrasing and expression so that oral reading sounds like


speech
Transform deliberate strategies for word recognition and
comprehension into automatic skills

Importance of Reading Why is it Important to Read?

1. Reading is directly proportional to knowledge

F. Application
The teacher gives photocopies of a speech. Students should read
it to measure if they learn how to develop their fluency in
reading.
