Lab 6 Electricity Bill Worksheet

Your name: Trey Cross

Directions:

Make a list of the appliances you have at home and their power ratings. Some
common appliances and their power ratings are given below.
Refrigerator 800 W; water heater 3 kW; electric iron 700 W; cooking
range 1200 W; air conditioner 2.5 kW; everything else together 900 W.
Decide on the numbers of hours each of these appliances is used.
Calculate the number of units for each appliance by multiplying the power of
each appliance in kilowatt (kW) by the time it is used in hours per day.
Add the number of units for each to obtain the total number of units used per
day.
Multiply the number of units per day by 30 to obtain the number of units used
per month.
Multiply the total number of units by 0.08 to obtain your electricity bill for the
month.

4. Total cost for the month = $38.28

5. Write down two ways you can reduce electricity consumption to conserve
energy and reduce your bill.

I could turn the coffee pot off immediately after the coffee has finished brewing. It
will remain hot for quite a while so theres no need to leave it on. I could also only
open the fridge when I know exactly what I want so that I dont leave the door
open for longer than it needs to be open.
