Kick It Wide

Pupils: small groups 4/5

Kit: Rugby balls, coloured cones, bibs.

See Image 1 for the pitch set up

Organise pupils into small teams.
Pupils play a small game of rugby, using tackles and rucks as
appropriate. To earn more points however there is a channel on
either side of the pitch.
If a pupil communicates to their team, kicks the ball and another
pupil catches the ball in the channel their team receives 5 extra
points.

Progressions:

Only one team mate is allowed in the channel at all times.

Remove the cones marking the channels and ask pupils to think
about this area now the visual is gone.
Start to introduce the 22 m rule. When a team kicks into their 22,
they are in charge of the lineout.
Regression:

Once in the channel they cannot be touched or tackled

o Opportunity to discuss how beneficial this is and
emphasise the use of the wingers receiving the ball
wide.
