Conversion Factors for Units of Pressure

Terms and Abbreviations

standard atmospheric pressure = atmospheric pressure at sea level
cm = centimeter
k = kilo = prefix meaning 1000
kg = kilogram
m = meter
M = mega = prefix meaning 1,000,000
milli = prefix meaning 1/1000
N = newton
Pa = pascal
psi = pounds per square inch

Notes on getting the most use from this chart

To get the reverse of any conversion, divide 1.0 by the conversion factor. For example, the factor to convert bars to psi is
14.504, so the factor to convert psi to bars is 1/14.504 = 0.06895

If you cannot find a particular conversion (suppose, for example bars to psi), try looking for the reverse conversion (psi to
bars). If you find the reverse conversion, divide it into 1.0 to get the conversion you need.

This chart is only for converting units of pressure. If you cannot find a particular conversion, keep in mind that pressure is
defined as force area. Therefore, you can get additional conversion factors by consulting the charts Conversion Factors for
Units of Measure and Conversion Factors for Units of Force and applying appropriate conversions to the force or area listings in
this chart. For example, this chart lists factors to convert inches of water, but not feet of water. Suppose you want to
convert feet of water to psi. Multiply your feet of water number by 12 to convert it to inches of water, then use the
conversion factor from this chart.
