Abstract

The problem statement:

How does Uzbekistans fabric affect the economical lives of people in their

nations?

Uzbekistan had a problem with Russia, and it was that Russia was taking

their fabric and selling them in their country and stating that Uzbekistan

fabric belongs to Russia. This problem has severely affected the humble

nation, leading it with economic issues.

-if Uzbekistan stopped this tradition will Russia get affected and will it will

affect the Uzbekistan?

-if the Uzbekistan people never knew about it will it affect the economical

lives more?

Research Methodology:

Our proposed study will potentially conduct an interview with three

classes of each side and teachers with different nationalities; Filipinos,

Jordanians, Syrians, etc. These classes will consist of 17 9th graders and, 27

8th graders and 15 7th graders and 20 teachers of IJPS (International Jubilee

Private School). We will have an interview with 20 teachers. The students

involved in the research come from mixed socioeconomic status, race, and

gender.

Conclusion:

In Uzbekistan, the fabric effects the people economical lives, because fabric

is a tradition on their country, and Uzbekistan is famous of doing fabric ikats

came to Uzbekistan by the 17th century

And they saved their own tradition, until now they still make their own silk

Chapter I

Introduction:

A fabric with a thousand years of history, silk is acclaimed for its smooth,

lustrous texture that makes it comfortable to wear in both winter climates

and warmer seasons. Silk is also one of the strongest natural fibers and

today, has many uses apart from garments. Silk defined a lifestyle of luxury

attainable to only a few. In fact, when silk was first discovered, its use was

reserved for the Emperor and the Royal Family (Christine Boado, 2012). Ikat

is very important in Uzbekistan because the women which is not married

wear different silk than the married women. The tradition of making fabrics

originated in Uzbekistan since ancient times. Pieces of silk fabric were found

in North Bactria (II-III centuries BC), is proof of weaving and dyeing of fabrics many

millennia ago. Bukhara, Namangan, Margilan have always been centers of weaving.

Statement of the Problem

In the 17th century Uzbekistan people started producing their own fabric silk.

They were given as rewards for faithful service by the rulers, like medals are

given now. Every single year they are producing new designs with different

meanings. In 1960 Uzbekistan people started facing some problems from the

Russians. Russian people were pandemic their fabric and selling them to

other countries while claiming that this fabric was made in Russia. ( Shannon

Ludington 2006). In this situation of Uzbekistan, researchers came up with the big

question: How Uzbekistans fabric art affect the economical aspect of people

in Uzbekistan? And sets some questions where researches took the following

hypothesis:

1- If Uzbekistan stopped this tradition will the Russians get affected and

will it affect the Uzbekistan people?

2- If the Uzbekistan people never knew about it will it affect the economic

life more?

3- If Uzbekistan people will start exporting their fabric is it going to stop

the Russians from taking there fabric and will it change the economic

life to positive life?

4- What if the world didnt believe that this is their fabric are they going

to use another strategy to make them believe it?

Objectives:

The proposed study aimed to people that there is a vague effect how Russian

people are claiming Uzbekistan fabric. If was hypothesis that the people of

this situation will have a big effect on Uzbekistan peoples economic aspect

To review the industrial process of the Uzbekistan fabric.

To replenish all possible data about the tradition.

Provide information about the materials used and steps done.

To conceive an organizer using the Uzbekistan fabric.

The result of the study will value the practices related to the traditions

and develop better revision and tools to be included in the process

Definition of terms

Fiber art refers to fine art whose material consists of natural or

synthetic fiber and other components, such as fabric or yarn. In comparison,

textile arts are arts and crafts that use plant, animal, or synthetic fibers to

construct practical or decorative objects. Fabric and textile have enormous

impact in the traditions of the country. A tradition is the handing down of

statements beliefs, legends, etc.., from generation to generation, especially

by word of mouth or by practice. By their cultures which is the quality in a

person or society that arises from a concern for what is regarded as excellent

in arts, letters, manners, etc. One of the important things in the country is

the history of it and it shows the branch of knowledge dealing with past

events.

Chapter II

Literature Review

This proposal study indicates a theoretical review of related

studies about Uzbekistan and how Uzbekistan art fabric affect the economic

life of the people in Uzbekistan?

According to Shannon Ludington (2006) in 1991, independence

came and there were new questions and new opportunities. A few families

had secreted the traditional Ikat methods, and they now slowly returned to

traditional production. With some foreign aid and government help the

production grew so strong that in 2008 the Soviet factory closed. All

production has now returned to traditional workshops, with hand binding,

dyeing, and weaving. Once again, in the markets there is a rainbow of

options and wearing silk Ikat has been an important part of the forging of

independent Uzbek identity. Additionally, the popularity of Ikat fabrics gave rise to a

more industrialized way of "mocking" Ikat fabrics through printing. Ikat is defined as a method

of tying and dying weft and warp yarn to create a desired pattern. Ikat print is a printing

technique, which is much simpler, less time consuming, less labor intensive and it costs

significantly less. It is also not really an Ikat! With printed Ikats one gets only an Ikat pattern,

which lacks an Ikat soul.

On the other hand, the Russians conquered the area and centralized

government. Ikat production continued but its official political life was over. It

became a luxury fabric, highly prized and valuable, but not political. New

designs exploded into the market as masters experimented, free from

restrictions and enjoyed the use of new chemical dyes which were being

traded in the region. (Navrus, 2017).

Related to Uzbekistan's silk-production tradition dates back to

ancient times, and is a point of national pride. Today, the sector is strictly

controlled by the government, but delivering the annual harvest has a family

feel. (Farangis Najibullah, 2013)

Conclusion

Until this day Uzbekistan is still facing their huge problem, and till

this day theyre still trying to find the best solution for this problem and how

are they going to solve it. Uzbekistan is trying to tell the people that the Ikat

is their fabric and its not made in Russia but the people are not believing

that. So what Uzbekistan did is theyve started exporting their own fabric and

we can tell that this move was a successful move but the Russians are still

stealing their fabric, and now its like a war between them both.

Methodology

Participants

Our proposed study will potentially conduct an interview with three

classes of each side and teachers with different nationalities; Filipinos,

Jordanians, Syrians, etc. These classes will consist of 17 9th graders and, 27

8th graders and 15 7th graders and 20 teachers of IJPS (International Jubilee
SILK OF OUR LIVES

Private School). We will have an interview with 20 teachers. The students

involved in the research come from mixed socioeconomic status, race, and gender.

Materials

This research will require a questionnaire, due to the fact that it is the

actual interview, for the respondents to answer it for the results. We need a

checklist because we need to remain organized and to manage it quickly and

well. Having these materials will allow the respondents to have the ability to

answer the big question which is how Uzbekistan fabric art affect the

economic life of people in Uzbekistan, and that will give us a great conclusion

with positive results.

Procedures

This proposed study will be a 12 week study beginning at February

2017. The students will be given a questionnaire to answer for the topic

researched. The questions in the interview are in order, scaled from their

difficulty. This study will analyze which teachers or students are capable of

understanding the topic. The questions will either be Yes/No or free response.

The responses will be assembled once a week.

Analysis
SILK OF OUR LIVES

The data collected in our study will be analyzed depending on the type of data collected.

First the checklist results will be analyzed to see whether the participants without knowledge

learn better than the students with knowledge. Participants grades will be analyzed to verify if

the conceptual change and literacy strategies have a significant impact on them. The study will

also measure whether literacy strategies will help students become mindful of what changes are

taking place in their conceptual framework. We will analyze the answers given by the

participants in the questionnaire.
