1.Introduction
Theequipmentconsistsofanadjustableplatformwithadropletviewingchamber,andhighvoltage
DC power supply. The platform was composed of a 30X brightfield scope with reticle, reticle
focusing ring, and droplet focusing ring, focusing wire, 4 plate voltage connectors, thermistor
connectors,ionizationsourcewithselectionlever,bubblelevel,andplatechargingswitch.Thedroplet
viewingchambercomposedofalid,housing,convexlens,upperandlowercapacitorplates,plastic
spacer,andthorium232alphasource. Thefirstparagraphafteraheadingisnotindented(Bodytext

2.ExperimentalProcedure
Thelocalenvironmentwasmadeasdarkaspossiblebycoveringtheapparatuswithalargecardboard
boxtoensurethebackgroundbehindtheinstrumentwasdark.Theapparatusplatformwasadjustedto
eyelevelandmakeasflataspossiblebyobservingthelevelingbubble.Theviewingchamberwas
disassembledbyliftingthecylindricalhousingandremovingthecapacitorplatesandseparatorplate.
Usingamicrometer,theseparationplatethicknesswasmeasuredtobeXXXXXXX.Thecapacitor
platesandseparatorwerereassembledandthefocusingwirewasplacedinthecenterofthecapacitor
platewherethereisaconvenienthole.Theilluminatinglightwaspoweredonandbrightnessadjusted
tooptimizethecontrastbetweentheilluminatedwireandthebackground.Thereticlefocusingring
wasusedtobringthemeasuringreticlepatternintofocus.Thedropletfocusingringwasthenusedto
focusthewireintheviewer.Thefocuswirewasremovedandplacedinitsholderontheplatform.
The high voltage DC power supply was connected to the voltage connectors on the platform. A
multimeterwasconnectedtomeasurethevoltagedeliveredbythepowersupply.Thefirstparagraph
