    Cindy Sherman was born in 1954 in Glen Ridge, New Jersey. She was the youngest of five

    siblings. Her mom was a reading teacher and her dad was an engineer. Since she came so late in

    her parents lifes her dad was retired by the time Cindy was in the 5th grade.When she was

    growing she didnt really think much about the idea of art. It was only when she began college

    she started to turn her attention towards art and began to understand the point of art. . Her parents

    didnt really have an interest in art but when they found out that she wanted to turn her attention

    towards art they supported her.While she was in college , she began to paint but she eventually

    got tired of it. She came to the conclusion that painting limited her and the things she wanted to

    do, She wasnt able to express herself the way she wanted to. She realized that all the things

    about painting could have never gave her the chance to have a career with painting. Due to this

    she turned her attention to photography.

    Cindy graduated from college in 1976, she moved to New York City to pursue her career in art.

    She started off by taking photographs of herself in movie costumes and things such as wigs &

    make up. She never potrayed herself in her photography as a fictional person not who she was as

    a real person. She used people such as a woman in distress, a wife, a prostitute etc. She made

    sure that she let her viewers know that the person she potrays in her photographs doesnt depict

    who she is as an artist. Its just the style of photography she likes to do.

    She made this clear by titling all her pictures Untitled so that no one would get a specific

    thought about what the picture is about so they wont judge her and think that the character she

    captured is her and what she stands for.

    This is an example of one of her untitled photographs.

    didnt have people taking pictures of her , she took them on

    She had many different portraits that she took of herself. Cindy Sherman was famous for using

    non-fictional characters and she also took a lot of sexual pictures to potray different women.
