*Math (on)- Unit 6- Developing Multiplication

***** ***** ***** 3 groups of 5 5, 10, 15 5+5+5=15 3 x 5= 15

*Math (Adv)- Unit 2- The Relationship Between Multiplication and Addition

Ask your child to show and tell you how multiplication and division are related (inverse operations). We will be using
patterns in multiplication and division to help us remember specific facts.

*SCIENCE- Matter
Ask your child to tell you What are 3 forms of matter? What are some of their properties? What is the shape
of each form of matter?
Next week we will explore how matter can change reversible and irreversible changes, mixtures, solutions,
evaporation, water vapor, condensation, freezing, melting, burning, boiling, cooking, cutting, etc.

*Reading- Our focus skill will be Summarizing a text we have read. Students will learn the difference between
Retelling and Summarizing. When we learned to retell, we needed to focus on story elements like characters,
setting, problem and solution, plus details from the beginning, middle, and end. When we summarize, we DO NOT
need to tell all of the details. Summarizing is short and to the point. We will focus on:
SomebodyWantedButSo(and sometimes add ThenFinally).
Please check the dates already written at the top of your students reading log. Your student should read each
night and put a check in the circle.

*Writing/Grammar- We will continue to focus on Opinion writing. Students have been writing about their favorite
book characters and their favorite parts of books. Now we will look at how our writing changes based upon our
intended audience. We will wrap up learning about contractions this week.

Spelling-Word Sort 19 words were given out this week. Word lists are also posted on our 2nd grade Weebly
website if your second grader forgot to bring home a spelling list. TEST: Thursday, March 16.

Sincerely,

Kellie Segraves & Amber Allman
