Morning Meeting

Lesson Plan Format

Subject/Lesson Topic: Morning Meeting


Objectives: Students will be able to feel warm and welcomed into the classroom.
Students begin to think about their investigations. Students will begin thinking about
what performing arts.

Pre-K Class
Classroom contains 16 students, 9 boys and 7 girls
Classroom contains 2 lead teachers and 2 student teachers
My students learn through child-directed activities that are based
on their interests. These activities are set up for the students to
explore with. Therefore, I chose to teach them a concept that is
based on their interests. I have also incorporated hands on
activities.
Classroom contains various special needs, including a student
with hearing aids, various levels of behavior, developmental
delays, and some students who are reading above and below
level.

Family/ Community Connection or Extension: The students will be encouraged to tell
their families about what performing arts is. They will be encouraged to begin
incorporating performing arts activities at home.

Lesson Procedures and Activities:
Introduction:
Sing good morning song
o Lets get our good morning hand ready.
o Hello, hello, hello and how are you? Im fine. Im fine. And
I hope that you are too.
o If some students are singing, I may say, Lets sing it one
more time. I want all of our friends to sing it with us.
Acknowledge any hands that are raised
o Call on all the students that have something to share
o As students raise their hand, I will call on each of them and
acknowledge their feelings.
Ask how theyre feeling and call on a few friends to share why
they are feeling a certain way
o Show me how your feeling today.
o If someone says that they had a bad morning I will
comment on their feelings to try and make them feel
better.
o If someone says they had a good morning I will tell them
that I am happy that they had a good morning.

Activities:
Check if anyone is absent and ask the children who
o Raise your hand if you have an empty spot next to you.
o Yes _____ has a spot next to him, and ____ has a spot next
to her, etc (Show on fingers as you say it)
o So we have two friends missing today. Can anyone tell me
who is missing today?
o Yes ____ is missing and _____ is missing.
Acknowledge any raised hands
o Call on anyone that has there hands raised and comment
on what they say.
Question of the day
o I have a really important question I want to ask.
o Everyone put on your thinking caps.
o What is performing arts

Closure:
Send them off to breakfast
o Now that were finished with morning meeting, what is it
time for?
Breakfast (Ms. Sarah will be starting to set up
breakfast)
Send them off individually by using the letters to wash their
hands
o Grab the letters in the basket. Pick up one letter and put it
in the basket. If the childs name starts with the letter you
picked up then they know to come put their towel in the
basket and go sit for breakfast.

Differentiation:
Behavior needs: Any students with behavior needs will be
encouraged to engage in the lesson. If they continue to have
issues, I will ask them to leave the carpet and go back to their
desk to lesson from there. One student will be given a pipe
cleaner to help with her behavior, because she needs something
in her hand.
Ability levels: In order to make sure that everyone understands, I
will be going at a pace that is appropriate for everyone in my
class. I will repeat questions and reword questions as needed.
Cultural differences: This lesson meets the needs of all students
in the group. It is relevant to their lives and is developmentally
appropriate.
If someone is having trouble with the concept, I will work with
them during small group. I will also use different teaching
strategies to assist their learning.

Formative Assessment/Evaluation:
Anecdotal notes: I will be taking observations and notes about what the students
say performing arts is so that I can see how much they know before my unit
begins. This will be interesting to see at the end of my unit.
