Reflection:
At the beginning of the semester I was a writer who was just focused on completing the
assignment and did not go as deep as I could have. As the semester progressed, I began to go
more in depth, as I was exposed to different types of writing and how to approach works in a new
way. Examples of my work which demonstrate this, are my freewriting and wild-mind writing
exercises. In those assignments, I feel as though my writings were very bland and I just wanted
to put words on the page to be done with it.
The three tags that I chose were works that made me think about writing in a new way (yellow),
writing in which I demonstrated similar skills (green), and writing that I was most satisfied with
(blue). I assigned my first tag, thinking about writing in a new way, to the freewriting exercise,
rhetorical analysis, studio 2, and studio 4. In these assignments, I found that I had to depart from
my usual style of writing to properly complete the assignment. For example, in the freewriting
exercise, I never had done freewriting before so it was a new experience for me. This was similar
to the infographic in studio 4, which I had also never made before.
My second tag was assignments in which I used similar skills. I assigned the studio reflections for
studios 1, 2, 3, and 4 as well as both progress reports to this tag. I found that these assignments
were very similar because I had to reflect about my work in all of them. In the studio reflections I
reflected about my experience from completing the assignment and in the progress reports I
reflected about my research for the inquiry project and what sources I found to be useful.
My third tag was the assignments that I was most satisfied with. For this tag, I assigned the letter
to you, the 300 word response to Stop Googling, writing a conversation, proposal draft, and
proposal final. In all of these assignments, I enjoyed completing them, and as a result, I believe
that I put my best efforts into them. I enjoyed the amount of freedom that I had with these
assignments which allowed me to write how I wanted to and put in my best efforts.
Seeing my early works, I believe that I have grown as a writer this semester. I believe that I am
now better at reflecting on my own pieces of writings, from completing the many studio
reflection assignments. I also believe that I can better communicate my own voice better in my
writings, as many of the assignments that we have completed have given us freedom to write in
a way that expresses our own voices.
I will take what I have learned so far to apply it to my other courses, where I am required to write
other papers and reflections. For this course, I feel better prepared to write my inquiry project
paper, having lots of prior writing practice from class assignments. Having good writing skills is
important in order to communicate your ideas, no matter the course you are taking.
