Lord of the Flies: Chapter Eleven and Twelve Notes

As you read chapters eleven and twelve of Lord of the Flies
you are finished taking notes, respond to the discussion question and identify 5 or more vocabulary words you have
learned in these chapters. Refer back to our chapter 11-12 Quizlet study set as needed.

I. Chapter 11 discussion questions:


A. What is myopia? What makes Piggy myopic? Are there other myopic characters (figuratively
speaking)? Discuss the significance of blindness (literal and figurative) in this chapter.

- What makes Piggy myopic, which is a lack of sight is because of Jacks tribe steal his glass so they
can make a fire for food. Also Piggy cant see that the other boys having to stopped being civilized
or them killing one of them (And doesnt see it coming.) Also with Ralph cant see that everyone
has gone savage and theres like no way to being bad order. Then with Jack cant see or blind by his
power and with keep this power because he wants to stay as leader.

B. What happens to Samneric in this chapter? Why do you think they chose Samneric? What do Samneric
want to do to protect themselves from this fate, before they even leave for Jacks camp?

- In this chapter samneric are catch by Jacks tribe tie them up. They took Samneric because it would
leave Ralph all alone and they know Ralph would come and save Samneric so they can kill Ralph.
Also they get spears and paint their face because they kinda knew something bad was going to
happen.

C. What do Jack and Ralph do after Ralph calls Jack a thief? Who advises them to stop? What do they do
after he orders Samneric to be tied up?

- After Ralph calls Jack a thief is that Jack start to fight Ralph and was going to stick his spear in
Ralph, but Ralph defeated himself and they start to fight it out, but Piggy tells Ralph to stop and
remind whnt they came for.

D. What is the significance of Piggys injury in this chapter? Is Piggy a static or dynamic character?
How do you know?

- Piggy is dead at the end of the chapter. Also the conch is destroyed in the end too which means that
savaging prevail over civilized. Also with piggy he was a dynamic character by showing from the
beginning to end that Piggy found that conch first and in the end he is the last one holding that
conch till its destroyed.

II. Chapter 12 discussion questions:


A. When Ralph comes upon the Lord of the Flies in the jungle, what does he do? What is the
significance of this action?

- Ralph punches the Lord of the Flies and then the skull of it broke. This action shows the anger of
Ralph and how mad he is because of the deaths and thing that have happen

B. How do SamnEric offer support to Ralph when he finds them guarding the gates on Castle Rock?

- They tell him and they are going to hunt him down, kill him, and put his head on a stake. Also tell
his where to hide and get gave Ralph some meat.

C. What can you infer Roger and Jack intend to do with the stick that is sharpened at both ends?

- They were going to put Ralphs head on the stick as the same they did to the pig or the Lord of the
Flies.

D. Near the end of the book, it says, Ralph wept for the end of innocence, the darkness of man's heart,
and the fall through the air of a true, wise friend called Piggy. What do you think this quote means?
Think of Ralph's perspective, how did he change, what did he learn? Was he friends with Piggy at the
beginning?

- This mean that the quote could mean how they never meant to do the thing they want too, like killed
2 people and broke apart and went savage. Also with Ralph he learn about that how evil the can be
as little kids and indeed Piggy and Ralph were friend from the beginning.
