RALPH!!!!!! :D
Ralph
Ralph can be seen as leader of the tribe. He is the main Ego of
the story. Egos can also be seen as bandwagoners so he basically
bandwagons on the side of Jack and his Id ideas. The reason he
was chosen leader originally was because he had the conch that
brought everyone together.
R R W ??!??!?!??!
Ralph basically represents the idea that humans follow what others do, aka Bandwagoning. He
follows whatever Jack suggests because at first he saw him as an equal, as someone he could
trust. So Ralph took most of his suggestions to the letter so he wouldnt seem like a leader who
wouldnt take suggestions from the followers.
Ralph as as a bandwagoner
Adding on to the bandwagon idea.

Ralph being an ego bring the mixture of superego and Id, which brings the impulsiveness and the thought
process of the superego

Every time a big decision was about to occur in the story, Ralph would always think of the consequences
of the action. But after awhile, he would get bored and allow the Id part of him to come out.

For instance take the fire up on the mountain, he was thinking of a plan while Jack and the others rushed
up the mountain, but later on he rushed a
R S
Ralph firsts starts out at Piggys side walking out onto the beach where the conch is first shown

He realizes the effects of Piggys asthma and sets off to investigate the beach without Piggy because he
thought of the consequences of time loss on account of Piggys medical conditions.

This shows Ralph as a Superego because he was doing the best thing he could think of to keep everyone
safe.
Ralph as an Id
Ralph shows some of his Id impulses when he joins the dance where the boys end up
killing Simon.

Ralph had just eaten the meat and the others started to sing and dance around the fire,
but when the storm arrived they started a sort of death chant. And when Simon showed up,
they thought he was the beast and killed him.

This shows Ralph as an Id because he acted out of complete fear and didnt think of the
consequences of his actions.
Text-To-Text Comparison
Ralph is a leader figure in the story which can be compared to Chesley
Sullenberg. Sullenberg aka, Sully was the pilot of the plane in 2009 that had
crashed into the Hudson River. The plane was projected to hit buildings after the
engines were disabled.
The Bonds around Ralph :P
Many Bonds around Ralph in the story were Diminishing and as the leader he had to work hard to keep them
aligned.

For example In chapter 2 it says, I got the conch- Jack Turned fiercely. You shut up! Piggy wilted. (p 42)

This shows that even in chapter one the bonds around Ralph, such as Jack and Piggy, are already diminishing
because of Jack's impactantes and ID satisfaction needs.
